Eyes Wide- Shut Kind of Smile
Thank you for the smiles. ❤️

Eyes Wide-Shut Kind of Smile
You know that feeling when someone comes into your life or something happens that fills you up with joy?
The kind of moment that comes at the point that you are bursting with so much happiness that you are overflowing with love?
That is what I call an eyes wide-shut kind of smile.
You know?
That smile where your eyes are closed but you can see alllll of your teeth.
The smile where you lean in to the person your taking a picture with or stick your head out and tilt it back because your so happy you can’t contain it.
The kind of smile that you feel right before tears of joy fill your eyes because you know this feeling is a gift from the heavens that should not be taken lightly.
Well that’s my smile for sure! That is when I know I am the happiest.
This is called an eyes wide-shut smile because although your natural eyes may be shut or look low, the eyes of our hearts are open. We are acknowledging what our heart feels and the we have a heightened sense of joy, love and peace in our spirit. Which spiritually frees us up to see things and hear in a way that we may not be able to when dealing with the pressures of life.
I inherited the beautiful gift of smiling from both of my parents. Both of them had beautiful smiles that could light up any room and brighten your day. They both mastered the ability to smile through their storms and in the face of naysayers.
My father raised me most of my life and I saw him overcome impossible situations with tears and smiles. He also celebrated the same way. However, the difference was in his smile. When he was extremely happy he had an eyes wide-shut kind of smile! An undeniable and incontestable beam of happiness exuded from him.
I didn’t realize that I had the same thing until he passed. Previously, I chalked it off to silliness (which I get from him as well) but I think that it’s something deeper. I looked at a picture of him and my God dad and I instantly recognized that smile.
It was the same smile I had when he came to visit my first apartment. It was the same smile that I had my sophomore year sitting in the cafe with my besties just thankful to still be in that moment with them. It was the smile I had in China with my faves at the rooster during Sunday Trivia night. It was the smile I had when I decided to take a leap of faith and resign from my job to do what God told me to do.
I could go on and on about times when I had that smile. Now I see in the natural what my heart felt and my spirit understood. There is a safety felt within that smile. There is a love so deep it could penetrate the hardest of brick walls.
I believe everyone deserves to smile eyes wide-shut. It is a knowing that moments like this don’t come all the time and they deserve to be felt to the utmost. It is a time and space where you forget about what’s wrong and live in the goodness of your soul.
When we allow these moments to happen freely It refreshes our spirit and calms anxiety. It will remind us of the beauty of today.
I am so glad that I never threw away my eyes wide-shut smile. I can’t wait to see yours!
Below are just some of my favorite eyes wide-shut smile photos. Although I smile often I haven’t experienced one of these smiles in months so please feel free to share yours. It might just help someone else out to see your “eyes wide-shut smile. 😆😁❤️
“I smiled at them when they did not believe, And they did not diminish the light of my face.”
Job 29:24
