Championing Multicultural Representation Through Literature and Beyond

There’s a clear need for a space that supports and uplifts interracial relationships.

For Nikita Gupta, representation isn’t just a talking point—it’s a mission. As the founder of Growing Up Gupta, she has dedicated herself to creating spaces where mixed South Asian children and multicultural families can see their identities reflected in literature and broader discussions on culture and love.

A Personal Journey to Representation

Gupta’s journey began with a simple yet profound question from her then-four-year-old daughter: “Where are the kids that look like me?” This moment ignited a deep realization—there was a glaring lack of books that represented children of Black and Indian or mixed South Asian descent. Unable to find any, she and her husband took matters into their own hands.

Their first book, I Love Masala Me, was born from this need, featuring bilingual text in Hindi and English. This heartfelt project aimed to provide validation and representation for mixed South Asian children, ensuring they saw themselves celebrated in the pages of a book. Nikita also created a multicultural family store based on this children’s book.

“We wanted to make sure our daughter and other children growing up in mixed households had something they could relate to—something that made them feel seen and valued,” Gupta explained.

Expanding the Vision

Gupta’s commitment didn’t stop there. She continued to create resources tailored for multicultural families, including Mixed Desi: The Coloring Book and Mixed South Asians: The Coloring Book. These books go beyond entertainment—they are tools designed to spark pride, foster cultural identity, and celebrate the richness of blended backgrounds.

Her work extends beyond literature. With Growing Up Gupta, she has built an online platform fostering discussions on interracial relationships, cultural identity, and parenting in multicultural households. Through this platform, she has shared invaluable insights on navigating challenges and embracing the beauty of blended cultures.

Love, Relationships, and Breaking Barriers

Beyond children’s books, Gupta is also passionate about supporting interracial couples. She recently launched the Interracial Journal for Couples, a guided journal designed to help couples strengthen their bond through meaningful conversations and reflections. Available on Amazon, the journal offers prompts, time-tested advice, and exercises to encourage deeper connection across cultural lines.

And there’s more. In February 2025, Gupta will release her latest book, Bound by Culture, Freed by Love. This powerful collection shares deeply personal and raw stories of Indian interracial couples navigating the complexities of love, tradition, and cultural expectations.

“This book is a tribute to love’s resilience—the ways it can break barriers and bridge cultural divides,” she said.

What’s Next? Matchmaking for Interracial Couples

With an overwhelming response from her community, Gupta is now exploring a new venture—Indian interracial matchmaking services. While still in the early stages, she hopes this initiative will create more opportunities for people seeking love across cultural backgrounds.

“We’ve received so many messages from people asking if we offer matchmaking services. There’s a clear need for a space that supports and uplifts interracial relationships,” she shared. Interested individuals can reach out via direct message or email for more details.

A Lasting Impact

Through Growing Up Gupta, Nikita Gupta has carved out a space for multicultural families, ensuring they are represented, heard, and celebrated. Whether through literature, relationship resources, or potential matchmaking services, she continues to champion the idea that love and identity are limitless.
