Boss Mom

Thank you

This is my mom and grandma!

Being adopted isn’t easy, especially when you’re an Africa American being raised by whites parents and grandparents. But when you have three amazing and loving women raising you, it becomes a little easier. Growing up I had my mom, grandma and my great grandmother always by my side. Even though I lost my great grandmother in 2018, she will forever be my savior. She’ll forever be the my one true queen. If you think raising one kid is hard, my mom raised seven. And that was only the start of it. She soon adopted my Brazilian brother. After that she took in two other boys. Also raising my four and a half year old nephew. My grandma used to tell me story’s about my great grandfather taking her to feed and play with the poor black families around the town. My great grandmother was known for taking food to the families and making sure no one was hurt over there. They showed me that love has no color, love doesn’t mean blood. Being black and in an all white school had its challenges, but when I told them what was going on, they were in that school until I got what I deserved. I am so pleased and blessed that that let me explore my blackness. I was able to get braids and cornrows because they didn’t want to hide my blackness from me. I was able to be free with myself and that made me felt loved and cared for.

I remember when I was so excited to see my biological family at one of my games, but instead I found my grandma and my mom. I will never forget the pain that caused me, but i’ll also never forget the reality of it. That was the day I realized I don’t need anyone else, I had my mom and grandma cheering me on through everything. Track meets, cheer competitions and soccer games. They were always there screaming and shouting making sure I heard them. When I was a sophomore in high school I made it to state in track. It was a four and a half hour drive there but they made sure they were there. When they couldn’t make it, they made sure someone was updating them on how I was doing and made sure I knew they wanted to be there. These are the women who took me in to raise me, the kindness they have is unbeatable. They showed me how to love, how to care, and how to simply be me. They taught me to never give up on my dreams and to fight for what i believe in. I’m currently trying to find money for college and they haven’t stopped helping me. The days I think of throwing it all away, they are on my back until I get myself back up. I’m here to thank those three women. They didn’t have to take my siblings and I in, but they did. And they have rasied me to be an honest and respectful woman I am today. Without those three, I would absolutely be nothing. They brought joy and happiness into all of our lives. To Mollee, Jean, and to my queen Betty White, not the actress, from the bottom of my heart thank you. I will never be able to thank you enough nor will I ever be able to repay you. Your love for everyone is huge. And I will never forget where I came from. You guys turned kids with broken futures into kids who now have the brightest futures ahead of them. I’ll never understand what you guys went through raising all of us, I know it may have had some battles. The looks and the people who would bad mouth you guys around town. I appreciate everything you guys sacrificed for us. Thank you for supporting us and never loosing hope. God blessed me with not one mom, but three. You guys are the reason that my heart and soul are full daily. You guys are The real Boss Moms. I love you guys to the moon and back.
