Beauty and the Beast

A Tale as Old as Time

By Muhammad TanveerPublished 9 months ago 3 min read

Once upon a time, in a quiet village nestled at the edge of a dark forest, there lived a kind and intelligent young woman named Belle. Unlike the other villagers, who were content with their simple lives, Belle longed for adventure and knowledge. She spent her days reading, dreaming of faraway lands and stories where courage, love, and magic changed the world.

Her father, a gentle inventor, was the only family she had. One day, he set out to deliver a new creation to a nearby town but lost his way in a storm. Cold and frightened, he stumbled upon a towering, enchanted castle hidden deep in the forest. The doors opened as if by magic, and he found warmth, food, and shelter—though the castle seemed empty.

But he was not alone.

The castle belonged to a Beast—once a proud and selfish prince cursed by an enchantress. He was transformed into a monstrous creature, his servants turned into talking objects, and the castle frozen in time. The curse would only break if he could learn to love and be loved in return, before the last petal of an enchanted rose fell.

When Belle’s father plucked a rose from the castle garden to bring home to her, the Beast appeared in fury. As punishment, he imprisoned the old man. When Belle found out, she rushed to the castle and offered herself in her father’s place. The Beast agreed, moved by her bravery.

At first, the castle terrified Belle. But as the days passed, she discovered that magic filled every corner of it—talking teacups, dancing candlesticks, and a library larger than any she had imagined. And though the Beast was gruff and lonely, she began to see glimpses of kindness behind his monstrous appearance.

He asked her to dine with him, and they shared stories and laughter. Slowly, the two formed an unlikely bond. She learned he had once loved books too, and that he regretted the arrogance that had led to his curse. He, in turn, saw in her not just beauty, but courage, compassion, and wit.

One evening, the Beast gave Belle a magic mirror that showed her anything she wished to see. When she asked to see her father, she saw him sick and lost in the forest, searching for her. The Beast, though heartbroken, let her go—choosing her happiness over his own. He gave her the mirror and a rose, and set her free.

Back in the village, Belle nursed her father to health. But when the townspeople learned of the Beast, they feared him. A cruel hunter named Gaston led an angry mob to the castle, hoping to destroy the creature and win Belle’s hand.

Belle rushed to warn the Beast, but by the time she arrived, the battle had begun. She found the Beast wounded, refusing to fight back. “Why didn’t you protect yourself?” she cried. He whispered, “Because I couldn’t bear to hurt them… and I had nothing left to live for if you were gone.”

Moved by his selflessness, Belle told him she loved him just as the last petal fell.

Then, in a blaze of golden light, the curse shattered. The Beast transformed back into a prince—his true form restored by Belle’s love. The servants regained their human forms, and the castle bloomed with life once more.

Belle and the prince ruled the land with kindness and wisdom, and their story became legend—not because of the magic or the curse, but because love saw past appearances and reached the soul within.

And so, the tale of Beauty and the Beast lived on, a timeless reminder that true beauty lies in the heart.
