Hey mommy look.... those are the words that echo in my mine when I was brought back to reality with a bang on the car window by one of the Dead walking by just a few more and I'll be able to get out of the car and continue to my husband's place.
When this all started and the dead decided not to be dead no more. My kids were at their fathers for the summer. Him and I decided to separate for a while. We were able text back and forth so I knew they were okay, and knew their dad wouldn't let anything happen to them. We both agreed we should stay put for a while it what's going on the 5th week when I got a text from my daughter saying that Daddy left 3 days ago for some food and hadn't came back and there was alot of dead outside the house and they were scared and the phone was running out of minutes too and she didn't know what to do. I knew what I had to do. Told her to stay inside I was coming. Even though my husband's place was like two hours away nothing was going to stop me from getting to my family.
I gathered up some food, water and a baseball bat and Some kitchen knifes and put it all in my car and off I went.
There was so much chaos going on outside my house there were abandoned cars and wrecked cars all over the place, houses on fire, tons of the Dead walking around. There was stuff all over the road. I zigzag through it the best I could and I thought I was in The clear when I hit the highway, but NO there it was a huge traffic jam of abandoned cars. I sat there just staring at it thinking my kids would be like hey Mommy look. After some dead passed by I was able to leave my car and start walking. I figured if I can get past the traffic jam and find a bicycle or atv... hell I'll even try to ride a motorcycle, but for now the goal is getting through and past all the Dead.
The day is getting late and I can finally see what caused the traffic jam it was a huge wreck, as I pass the wreck I can see a restaurant in the distance hopefully I can stay there for the night. When I get there I slowly go inside luckily there wasn't very many dead inside that I had to get rid of. When morning comes unfortunately I have to go through some purses and even through pockets of some of the dead bodies to find some keys for the cars outside. I finally did find a set of keys to a old Dodge truck. So I thought it was my lucky day and was excited that I was going to be able to make it to my kids. As I drove down the road hoping and praying they were okay and their dad made it back safe and sound. When out of nowhere the tire blew and flip the truck over. I must have hit my head cause When I came to and Dawn what happened I slowly maked sure I was okay I was sore with some cut and bruises, but I was okay. I slowly got myself out of the upside down truck Gathered up what I could and started walking I was only like 25 miles away but it seemed like hundreds. I somewhat knew the area and knew there was a gas station off the next exit so I headed towards it. I got there and was ready to get rid of the dead but the place look like no one knew it was there not even the Dead, so I stayed there for the night it had some food and water and even some Band-Aids for the cuts and bruises I had. In the morning it took me awhile but I found a car with keys in it. It was a standard, but I didn't care it ran. I somewhat know how to drive one. I used to joke with my husband, If you can't find it grind it, but I got in it and off I went to my husband's place. Grinding the gears here in there.
My heart was beating so fast when I pulled into the driveway of my husband's place. Seeing the dead just walking all around the house. My husband's truck was in the driveway with the driver's door open and it was still running. I stop the car and turn it off and slowly got out slowly maked my way to the back of my husband's truck we're I could see that he left a shotgun in the backseat, so I grabbed it and checked to make sure it was loaded. It was I grad some extra shells and slowly and quietly make my way to the front door. I give a little knock to let them know that it was a me and not the dead. I could hear something moving around inside. I did a loud whisper to let them know that it was Mommy. My daughter came to the door and told me that the door was boards shut and I'd have to go to the back door. So I quickly made my way to the back door making sure the dead didn't notice me. I knock at that door and in loud whisper "It's mommy" the door opened and I was greeted with great big hugs from both my daughter and son. I hugged them, kissed them and told them I loved them and missed them. Then I looked at them and check them to make sure they were okay. I said that I saw is their dad's truck outside and was he okay. The look on their faces. My daughter said "well". What do you mean well? Was he bitten? Where is him? They told me he was in his bedroom laying down, as I walked through the bedroom doorsI could see blood all of the sheets frist-aid stuff all over the floor. My heart raced and at the same time stopped. You don't know how much someone mean to you until you think you lost them. I walk slowly over to the bed just in case. There I saw he had a cut on his right side about 6 inch Long. It was sewed up to a point that it stopped bleeding it also had my little pony band-aid on it. He looked up at me and with a half-ass smile and said "what took you so long". Trying not to show that I was really worried I said "seriously jerk". Then I asked what happened? He explained he had when out to get some food. He tripped and fell against some glass and cut himself. As I looked at it my daughter did a ok job sewing him up. I told him he just needed to rest for now. In the morning he comes stumbling out of the bedroom and sat at the table. I gave him a small plate of scrambled eggs and a cup of coffee. I sat down beside him and asked how he was feeling. He said he was fine, but I could tell he was just as or maybe even more than I was. He pulled out a little pink box with black roses on it and hand it to me. "Here saw this and thought you might like it". I open the little box and inside was a beautiful sterling silver heart locket with a little pink and black roses on it. I opened it and inside was a picture of the family and the words ALWAYS engraved in it. I look at him and smile and put my hand on his. Try not cry. I know what the word ALWAYS meant. I'll always be there for you no matter what. I will always love you even if I don't say the word all the time,I'll always have your back, I will always be your rock, as we sit there I tried to lighten the mood "Always" I say to him. He said "yeah you know what that means" I said "yeah" with a little chuckle "you'll always be my a**hole and I'll always be your crazy bi*ch. We both chuckled then sat there quietly watching our kids. Our daughter drawing and our son playing with cars. Hoping and praying, but not knowing what's the day will bring, but we know we always got each other and that is all that matters in this new crazy world.
