A Wolf Alone in the Field
It wasn't often that he would find a lone creature like himself on a walk.
I have always loved Winter nights. The cold, the snow, and the lack of people out at night. Something that I’ve found to be a good thing and a bit of a hinderance at the same time. But that is a thing to dwell on later. Right now, the most pressing thing was what I saw during my walk. A young man with curly red hair was walking through the snow. Normally, that wouldn’t draw my attention to this young man. What drew my attention to him was the ragged clothing that he was wearing. It looked like he wasn’t wearing shoes.
From where I was standing, I could see that he wasn’t.
This strange feeling of worry clawed my heart. And I found myself walking towards this strange young man. Not able to stop myself as I wandered towards him. Though, I don’t suppose that I wanted to. As I feared that he was hurt. That fear seemed to overwhelm any sense of self preservation. To keep myself hidden and safe. Soon as I was close, I could see the young man’s body was much hairier than before. Blood dripped from his fingertips and stained the snow he dredged through bright red. It was something that didn’t make me want to turn around. Just step closer to this poor figure that struggled through the deep snow. I called,”Excuse me, young man? Do you need help?”
“Fuck off…”,he growled. His voice was so much deeper than it looked like it should be. And it gave me pause as I watched him. Turning towards me, his eyes were a bright yellow. Much like a beast rather than a human. This was something that I’ve dealt with more than once before. A tiny smile came to my face as I stepped nearer. Not the least bit intimidated by his little growl. Calmly, I stated,”Now, now. There’s really no need for that kind of language, young pup. You can’t scare me off all that easily.”
“I’ll hurt you if you get any closer…don’t you understand that?”,he snarled. Sounding more terrified than terrifying. It was so precious. I have dealt with young creatures such as himself. Calmly, I sat down on the cold snow beneath myself. Ears poking out the top of his head while his normal melted with what had been normal human flesh. His spine cracked as he got down on his hands and knees. Looking more animalistic than before. Soon he stopped being able to say any words as he crawled towards me with those blazing yellow eyes. It didn’t scare me as much as he had hoped for. Or rather the human part had hoped. When he was within arm’s reach of me, I cupped his new muzzle. Gently petting it as he gave a low growl. Calmly, I crooned,”Shh, no need for that. A pup like you can’t easily scare off a vampire of my age.”
Stroking his face in a gentle manner, I smiled at him. Watching him slowly melt into my hands like the sweet little wolf he was. Slowly lowering his head onto my lap to nuzzle it. His eyes slowly shut as he settled down. Petting him more until he settled down. A vampire of my age isn’t that intimidated by a beautiful young creature like this. A red furred werewolf. A thing that I hadn’t ever seen in such a long time. Soon as I was sure that he was calm enough, I raised him into my arms. His head rested on my shoulder as I carried him back towards my home. Winter was one of my favorite seasons for this reason. Most people would not see me during this time of night. Don’t suppose I have to answer why it was one of the worst parts of the year.
For a creature such as myself.
Soon as I was home, I locked the door. Taking him to the living room where I settled his small form down on the couch. Wrapping blankets around him until I was sure he would feel cozy. Walking over to the fireplace, I started putting logs in the fireplace. Lighting a fire was something that I normally did for visitors. Well, human visitors. But this was a special case, and I could not allow him to freeze more than he already had. When I got the fire going, I turned to my guest who had opened his eyes once more. Though he appeared much calmer than when I first had seen him. My best guess is thanks to the fact he was warm now. Or that he finally felt safe for once. Maybe a combination of both facts. Either way, I smiled at him as I ran my fingers over his muzzle in a gentle calming manner. Softly, I assured,”Don’t worry, pup. You are perfectly safe with me. I won’t allow anything to happen to you.”
“I promise that everything will be alright when you shift back.”,I added. Keeping my voice as gentle as I would for any anxious person. It helped keep him calm as he relaxed in my hands. Softly sighing as we sat together. I continued,”Hopefully you will be as easy to reason with as you are right now when you’re back to being human.”
“I do hope that you don’t get scared easy.”,I added. The warmth of the fire was slowly filling the room. And I planned out a few ways to feed him. In his human form as well as his beautiful, shifted state. The fur was so luxuriously soft under my fingertips. I just knew we were going to be so happy together. Soon as he shifted back to human then we could finally speak to each other. Right when the moon fell. For now, I would enjoy what time I had with this beautiful scarlet furred wolf in front of me.
