Happy Mother’s Day!

And when you think you’ve got no one in the world to love you, think again! If you have a mother, you can never be deprived of love. Sure, it won’t be the love you’re craving, but it would be enough to soothe your soul and quieten the chaos in you. Mothers are the blessings that many of us don’t value until she’s not around. These incredible women go the limits to raise their children and provide them with the best life even when they’re abandoned and are in pain. This Mother’s Day, we’re here to introduce you to five fiercest moms who proved to be the powerhouses when it came to their children. Let’s celebrate the fortitude they had in them to fight and win against all odds.

Tammy Duckworth

Tammy Duckworth

Tammy Duckworth is a senator who hasn’t let anything stop her, not even physical disability. In 2004, the then captain was flying a Black Hawk when she was attacked. A grenade was propelled towards the helicopter, which landed near her feet and exploded in a blink. She woke up in a hospital and realized that she had lost her legs. This happened when she was 36, and 10 years later, at the age of 46, she became a mother for the first time. Tammy embraced motherhood and didn’t allow anything to stop her from living the best of her life. Her two children are Abigail and Maile, who inspired Tammy to start the “Friendly Airports for Mothers Act”, which supports breastfeeding moms and makes it easier to travel.

Josephine Baker

Josephine Baker

Imagine having a dozen children running around the house with mother’s day gifts for you! Can’t imagine a life with so many of them? Well, Josephine Baker actually had 12 of them. Born in 1906 and growing up in poverty, she became a dancer by joining a troupe at the age of 16. She sang professionally in 1930 for the first time and led a successful career as an amazing singer and dancer. Besides all of this, Josephine was an activist as well, and she proved to be a perfect mother by adopting 12 children of different nationalities and races. She put forward her point in front of the world that people of all skin colours can live together in harmony. Giving a special name to her babies, she called them her “rainbow tribe” and showed some of the brightest hues of peace to the world.

Eunice

Eunice

Eunice was 18 years old when she used to sell doughnuts to earn for her family. However, she dreamt of studying and made her way to the universities in Nairobi from her village but life had something else planned for her. She got raped while she was travelling and got pregnant. Eunice came home, but her family accused her of being sexually active and threw her out of the house. The strong woman didn’t give up, lived in the slums, raised her baby, and cleaned people’s homes to earn a living for her child. She made sure that she could fulfil every need of her son no matter what it took. The story doesn’t just end here; Eunice saved enough money to take admission to a university in Kenya and got a degree in counselling psychology.

Kylie Duncan

Kylie Duncan

Kylie Duncan is 18, a sexual assault survivor and an incredible mother! At the age of 13, when her mother took her to the hospital to get tested for endometriosis, they found out that she was more than eight months pregnant. When Kylie told them she was sexually assaulted, everybody was in shock and disbelief. The family came up with a plan, made her stay at home and told her batchmates and school that she was sick and needed to be quarantined. They also decided that after the delivery, they would tell everyone that Kylie’s mother had a baby instead of her. Later, when she delivered and held her son for the first time, she said, “he’s mine”! It was the mother drowning in the love of her newly born child. The 13-year-old even struggled in her pregnancy by having preeclampsia and postpartum depression after the delivery. There was a time when she searched for a marks and spencer mother’s day meal deal to celebrate the day, and now she had a baby of her own. After all these struggles, Kylie still didn’t give up and pursued her studies further to become a better version of herself.

Padmavathi

Padmavathi

Padmavathi is a strong and empowered mother in India who did a year-long program designed especially for mothers who have children with special needs. She has a son who has severe cerebral palsy and a whole lot of needs to be met. The lady learned to sew and make jewellery to bear the expenses of her son and did a program to understand him, look after him better, and communicate with him. She made connections with other mothers who had children with special needs and built a little community of her own. Padmavathi is one of those mothers whose love knows no boundaries or limitations.

She’s fierce. She’s strong. She’s a warrior!
