Youth Lifestyle: Increasing depression among youth
Seeing the lifestyle of the rich and the race to become like them pushes the youth into depression. To prevent anxiety and depression, do not follow others.

Nakul was a young man from an ordinary family. His parents had put in a lot of effort and financial difficulties to get him educated in a good college. His family had also gone into debt while arranging for the money. Nakul's parents thought that their son would get a job. If he would get a good salary, everything would be fine in a year or two. Nakul understood his parents' needs. He had in mind that he would help his parents with the salary he would get and keep them happy. After studying from a good university, he got a job in a company. The salary was not as he had thought but it was better than normal.
He had to maintain his lifestyle according to the company. He had to buy a car, a good flat, mobile, clothes, perfume, etc. according to the needs there. It was an expensive city. In such a situation, a large part of his salary was being spent on this. He was unable to save. On the other hand, his parents thought that now Nakul should send money home. They were hesitant to say so. Nakul used to send some money from time to time but it did not help.
The people working with Nakul were from rich families. They used to spend their entire salary. They did not have to send any money home. In such a situation, despite getting the same salary, Nakul looked poor. Others looked rich. In the month when Nakul used to send money home, he did not indulge in any extravagance. Seeing his colleagues spend, he used to fall prey to depression. Gradually, he started staying away from his friends. Loneliness started dominating him. Even after getting a good salary, he was troubled seeing the wealth of others.
Effect of social media
Everyone is using social media these days. Nakul also used to see how happy his friends kept their parents. They used to get them gifts, post about them on social media. Nakul was not able to do anything like this. His parents were from a village. Their lifestyle was different. They were not high-fi like social media. He used to be very upset. Once he went to the village on leave, he told these things to his father.
He said, 'Son, we don't want anything. Your friends are rich, from prosperous families. So don't compare yourself with them. Always look at the people below you, if you see their struggle, you will be happy. The more you look at rich people and compete with them, the more you will be sad and troubled. Happiness is not achieved only by prosperity. Happiness comes from mutual love, cooperation and sharing each other's joys and sorrows.'
Desire to get rich quickly
Nidhi Sharma, head of International Image Consultant, says, "The desire to get everything as soon as possible leads to depression, especially when we start comparing ourselves with rich or successful people. If we look at the life and struggle of a successful person, we will know that he too has struggled a lot. Now the way of thinking of children has changed right from school days. Every child studying in the class does not have the same marks. Some have less, some have more. Comparison with each other starts from here, which later reaches to wealth. Wealth is linked to success."
India is rapidly joining those countries where the disease of depression is increasing among the youth. There are many reasons for this. The main reason among these is considering oneself inferior to others. Sometimes some people go into depression due to not being able to live up to the expectations of their parents and sometimes due to the increasing pressure of studies and jobs. After talking to hospitals and psychologists, it was found that 1 out of every 4 teenagers is suffering from depression. Earlier, where depression used to occur between 25 to 30 years, now it starts at the age of 16-17 years.
Sometimes depression is caused due to the increasing pressure of studies and jobs, some people's family and some people's broken relationships become the reason for this. Whereas for some youths, their looks or loneliness becomes the reason for depression. According to statistics, 1 out of every 4 teenagers between 13 to 15 years is a victim of depression. Teens suffering from depression always find themselves alone. They feel as if the whole crowd is looking at them and laughing at them.
Recognize your own worth
Such figures are increasing in India. As people start getting affected by this disease, they start losing the will to live. The body remains restless all the time due to the increasing pressure on the mind. At an early age, these teenagers start feeling like ending their life.
Depression always brings negative thoughts and gradually they take a terrible form. In depression, it becomes difficult to concentrate on any one thing and there is always a feeling of fatigue. While some teenagers are completely broken by this disease, some fight it with full courage and are successful.
Nidhi Sharma says, "Youth can improve their mental health by making some changes in their lifestyle. Keep a distance from gadgets and social media. Long-term use of social media can create feelings like sadness, loneliness, jealousy, anxiety and dissatisfaction in you.
To avoid this, you can do 'social media detox'. We should stay away from our phones even when spending time with family and friends, just like you do during a corporate meeting. Staying away from the phone at night while sleeping improves the quality of your sleep and you wake up fresh in the morning.
You may feel that the stress at home and office is not in your control, but you can take the situation in your hands at any time to reduce your stress. Effective stress management helps you reduce stress in life.
If you know that every day of life is a gift, then you will live your life seriously. We sometimes forget how fleeting life is and how precious we are. Only you know how many difficulties you have faced. Your heart knows how much bravery you have shown. To prevent anxiety and depression, you should also know how precious you are.
We are running at the speed of Rajdhani Express in our daily lives and there is a lot of pressure on everyone to get ahead of someone else. Competition is good, but sometimes slowing down improves your mental health, so take rest. This will improve your mental health and will help in getting rid of depression.
