When I read this challenge, Bedtime Stories, I knew I was all in for this one. As you can see my photo cover is one of my favorite children books. Where The Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak has inspired a movie, an opera, song, and the imagination of generations. I just realized that this book was written the year I was born. No wonder I love it so much. This book has won the highest award a children's author can receive called, Caldecott Medal. I will come back to this most popular book of all times after I share a little about my other two top favorite children's books.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle is a story about a caterpillar that came out of an egg shell. The caterpillar couldn't get enough to eat. Each day of the week the author tells us what the caterpillar ate. By the time Sunday came around, the caterpillar had gained weight. The book actually say he was big and fat. The caterpillar hid in his house/cocoon for two weeks until he emerged as a beautiful butterfly.

My third favorite children's book is called, Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr. Seuss. It's about Sam-I-Am's trying to convince the narrator to eat green eggs and ham. He spends most of the book offering the narrator different locations, also dining partners to try the delicious green food. In the end, the narrator gives up and eats the green eggs and ham and ends up loving the food.
As a child I loved reading these books. As an adult have enjoyed reading these books to students in my classroom. To compare and contrast, you will see a common denominator in all three books. Venn diagrams help to visually represent the similarities and differences between two concepts. For this story, I will only share what they have in common, which is FOOD or something to eat.
Back to my #1 favorite bedtime or anytime children book, Where The Wild Things Are. For the remainder of this story, I will attempt to share why I still love this book. I will also share what I have in common with each book.

Max was a little boy that was acting wild in his home. His mother sent him to bed without any food to eat for saying he would eat her up. Ok, let's stop right here. As a kid and an adult, your imagination can take you to remote parts of the world when you're stomach is growling. Max room became a forest.

Without going into all the details or showing all the pictures, Max made himself king of the Wild Things in his adventurous dream. Usually, if I go to bed or take a nap on an empty stomach, I have weird dreams. Being hungry brings out all sorts of emotions.

When you are king or queen you can say or do whatever your heart desires. If I was a hungry queen in the forest, I would have all creatures bow down to me as well and bring me FOOD! I love to eat, especially sweet things. Sweetness is my weakness. Max continues to have fun and play with his Wild Things.

My love for food comes from having a mother who was raised in the south. She sho'nuff knew how to cook. Everything she made was scrumptious and delicious. My younger siblings couldn't wait to go back outside to play. I couldn't wait to eat the food they left on their plates. Thanksgiving was one of my favorite times of the year. My mother prepared turkey, ham, mac and cheese, greens, cornbread, yams, potato salad, turkey salad, her famous sweet potato pies and much more for her family.

Max knew how the Very Hungry Caterpillar felt. He was not just hungry he was very hungry. Max would have eaten the tasty Green Eggs and Ham with no hesitation. Just like Max, we don't turn down good food. We are Wild About Food. As Max was slowly back to reality, he smelled food. His mother didn't make him go to bed hungry after all. Max dinner was there warm and waiting for him to return from his far away voyage.
