Try This Strategy To Make $10K+ on Vocal Media

Make Money With Vocal Media

By ShahromPublished 3 years ago 5 min read

I know that most of you hate Vocal.Media and after re-publishing my Medium stories on that platform, I got to know why.

First thing’s first, Vocal Media’s algorithm isn’t as sophisticated/mature as Medium’s because, even after two of my stories made into their ‘Top Story’ section, I barely made $2 for their views.

Anyways that was my experience with Vocal Media. Within that short run, I understood that most writers who make money on Vocal are making it through writing contests, which is quite lucrative but not sustainable.

It’s hard to depend and bank upon Vocal Media because viral articles seem to lose their virality within a few days after being published.

However, there’s a way to make money with Vocal and that too consistent income, but it will only happen with external views/views coming from outside the Vocal Media.

In this article, I want to share a strategy that seems to have worked for a couple of writers on Vocal and would like to elaborate on that.

Why does making money on Vocal Media with external views sounds good?

Now, I think that most of you will agree that Vocal Media’s algorithm is different from Medium, and barely you would see any gains once you stop writing on the platform for a few months.

Here I can’t blame the algorithm, maybe it’s people in the community who aren’t interested in articles on Vocal Media and they might only be interested in reading articles from ‘Top Stories, ‘Relevant Communities,’ or ‘Challenges’.

Bring said that it’s important to note that,

Vocal Media pays its writers a fixed amount for every 1000 views, it doesn’t matter if the readers have a Vocal+ account (or) not, which is unlike Medium. Therefore to generate good amount of views from outside the platform is possible in two cases:-

One is through social media but still, once you stop your activity and stop promoting your articles on any chosen social media platform, your views can sink.

Second is through search engines, predominantly from Google. With simple SEO practices, you can rank your vocal media articles on Google. Since Vocal Media’s domain authority is high (i.e, DR 70+), it isn’t hard to rank content, and once your articles rank, you’re bound to generate consistent search traffic for months.

As Vocal Media considers traffic from Google as views too, and pays you for it. So the more and more articles you write, the more constant stream of views you can generate and it helps you get that consistent money.

The Two Step Approach To Make $10k+ on Vocal Media (Honestly, its more than just 2 steps)

By now, you should know that we’re not going to focus on writing articles catered to Vocal Media’s algorithm (or) its readers. Instead, our focus would be on writing articles which are easy to rank on Google and can help us generate consistent views for us.

Aamir Kamal a Medium writer who writes on Vocal Media too, has been able to rank some of his Vocal Media articles. Recently he made $8k+ on Vocal Media, and by looking at him, you need to understand that it’s quite possible to make money on Vocal Media.

Anyways this is the two step strategy:-

1) Select keywords which are relevant, easy-to-rank, and can bring in consistent traffic

Here I would like you to realize that learning/knowing about SEO is essential even though you’re just a writer. If you want your articles to rank on Google and make money, then knowing a few parts of SEO is damn essential, if not necessary.

So, the very first step of this strategy is to sort out the keywords which are relevant to the platform, should be easier-to-rank, and also at the same time needs to have the potential of generating consistent traffic to your articles later down the line for months, if not years.

To start your keyword hunt, you need to have an access to any premium keyword research tool. My favorite is Ahrefs.

After getting access to any premium keyword research tool, do this:-

Know the relevancy:- Firstly, insert the Vocal Media URL in Ahrefs and look for the top-ranking organic keywords and top traffic generating pages.

After looking at the keywords from both the above screenshots, even though Vocal Media is a platform which covers broad range of content but only few specific topics generate them bulk of the content. For example, content related movies, life, celebrities, and more.

Therefore to rank on Google using Vocal Media, you need to follow and target similar niche keywords that are already ranking. Hence swaying away too much from relevant keywords, isn’t a good option.

Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t publish content around other topics and rank on Google. It up to you to analyze most of Vocal Media keywords, and find topics that might be of your interests and as you find them, you can go ahead with those keywords and experiment with it.

Target easy-to-rank keywords with good traffic:- Once you know what keywords are relevant on Vocal Media and what kind of keywords/topics can help you rank better on Google. It’s time to go after keywords with good traffic and has an easier chance of ranking your content.

On Ahrefs, you can insert the URL of Vocal Media’s competitor sites and go with filters like Keyword Difficulty (1–10) and Min Traffic (500) to generate a list of keywords to analyze.

Once you go through this list, make sure to target keywords where weaker domains are ranking in the Top 10/Top 5. I suppose for a keyword, if two (or) more websites with DR less than 30/40 are ranking in the Top 10. Then it’s comparatively easier to rank your content within the Top 10 results on Google.

You can also use the keyword explorer feature in Ahrefs to type in a few relevant keywords and set the same filters as I mentioned above.

However as you finalie the list of keywords make sure that there is no content on Vocal Media written around the similar keywords.

2) Write content around your keywords and optimize the content

Once you have a list of 50+ keywords to write content about, here you need to start focusing on your primary skill, which is writing. Although I need to point that, you can’t write anything and expect your content ranked on Google.

There are a lot of things which you need to do right, like:-

Research about your topic and make sure to come up with content that can existing beat Top ranking articles.

Understanding user intent is the key to writing the best articles. Before writing content around any of your keywords, you need to understand the reason behind the searcher’s intent and come up with the best form of content that will answer his/her query.

Implement on-page SEO techniques, here try to include keywords in your meta title, meta description, content, also add some secondary keywords, and add alt texts in the images.

In case this looks overwhelming to you. Just use a tool like Surfer SEO while writing content, and the tool will automatically suggest some SEO recommendations on the go to optimize your content.

Wrap Up

I want you to implement and replicate the two above steps and publish at least 30–50 articles on Vocal Media. After that, wait for a couple of months, if not more, depending on your keyword competition. If done right, your articles will be ranking and generating consistent traffic, I am sure of that.
