THE SECRETS OF NATURE

The Tiger

By Syed sobriPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Originating from East and South Asia, the tiger is a type of predator and prey animal. The larger subspecies of tiger can reach a length of 3.3 meters and weigh 300 kilograms. Apart from its size and strength, the most important feature of the tiger is the black, vertically striped pattern that covers its whitish or orange-red fur.

Tigers typically possess fur that is reddish or rusty brown in color, complemented by a whitish fur on their chest, a white "crest" encircling their face, and stripes that can be brown, gray, or black.

Tigers are generally solitary and territorial animals that require large habitats to fulfill their hunting needs. Their presence in regions with high human populations often leads to frequent confrontations between tigers and humans.

Each subspecies of tiger has unique stripe patterns and densities as well as variations in coat coloration; for example, Siberian tigers are significantly lighter in color compared to other subspecies. Typically, tigers have more than 100 stripes.

When a tiger's fur is shaved, the underlying stripe pattern remains visible. Similar to other big cats, tigers also have white patches behind their ears.

HABITAT

1. It will have good protection,

2. situated near water

3. there are many victims.

BENGGALA TIGERS

Bengal tigers inhabit a variety of forest ecosystems, such as the moist evergreen and semi-evergreen forests of Assam and East Bengal, the mangrove forests of the Ganges delta, the deciduous forests of Nepal and the thorny forests of the Western Ghats. Unlike lions, leopards prefer dense vegetation as it provides better camouflage and allows individual hunters to exploit their advantages over prey in herds.

Of the large cat species, only tigers and jaguars can swim well; it is common to see tigers bathing in ponds, lakes and rivers.

In the heat of the day, tigers often cool off in the water. Tigers are good swimmers and can swim up to 4 miles. Tigers are also often seen carrying their victims across the lake.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The earliest documented true tiger fossils were found on Java and are between 1.6 and 1.8 million years old. Various fossils from the early and middle Pleistocene are also found in soil deposits from China and Sumatra.

Tigers began to gain a foothold in India and northern Asia in the late Pleistocene and reached Beringia (but not America), Japan and Sakhalin. Fossils found in Japan suggest that ancient local tigers, like the subspecies still found on the islands, were smaller than tigers on the mainland.

In each subspecies, the female tigers are smaller than the male tigers. The size difference between male and female tigers is more pronounced in the larger subspecies, where the weight of a male tiger is 1.7 times the weight of a female tiger.

In addition, male tigers have wider front paws than female tigers.

Tiger skulls are very similar to lion skulls, except that the front is not as depressed or flattened, with a slightly longer postorbital region than lion skulls with wider nostrils. Since the difference between the skulls of the two species is not very great, the type of owner of the skull can usually only be determined by the structure of the lower jaw.

THE CONCLUSION

Three of the nine modern tiger subspecies have been declared extinct, the remaining six are classified as endangered. The main causes for the endangerment of tigers are the destruction and fragmentation of their habitat as well as hunting activities. The number of tigers that once inhabited areas from Mesopotamia through the Caucasus to South and East Asia is now in decline. Although all remaining species are protected by law, poaching, habitat destruction and inbreeding depression remain a threat.

Nevertheless, tigers remain one of the world's most famous charismatic megafauna. Tigers play an important role in myths and popular culture and can also be found in modern films and literature. Drawings of tigers are often found on national flags and coats of arms, as sports mascots and as the national animal of a number of Asian countries, including Malaysia.
