The Power of Positive No:

Overcoming temptation through faith. Learn how

By Rabi PanimPublished about a year ago 3 min read

The Bible assures us in 1 Corinthians 10:13: "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man. And God is faithful, who will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

Everyone Faces Temptation

We all encounter temptation at some point in our lives. It's a normal part of the human experience. But the good news is, God is faithful. He won't allow us to face challenges that are beyond our capacity to overcome. With every temptation, He provides a way out, a chance to escape its grip.

The Bible offers numerous inspiring stories of individuals who said no to temptation and experienced positive change:

Daniel: Saying No to Compromise

Daniel, a young man of unwavering purpose, found himself far from home. Despite the pressure to conform, he politely declined the king's delicacies, choosing a life of self-discipline. This seemingly small act of defiance prepared him for a much bigger "no" later in life. As Prime Minister of Babylon, his refusal to compromise his faith in God landed him in the lion's den. Yet, his unwavering faith remained unshaken. Daniel's story teaches us that by controlling our desires, we can discipline our minds, hearts, and bodies.

Joseph: Resisting Sexual Temptation

The story of Joseph in Exodus 39 reminds us that sex is a gift from God, meant to be enjoyed within the boundaries of marriage. When faced with sexual temptation, Joseph, empowered by God, had the strength to say no. This teaches us that with Christ in our hearts, we can control our emotions and resist temptation. No temptation is too strong for God to help us overcome. He provides the way of escape, but we must surrender our lives to Him and allow Him to rule over our emotions and desires.

Moses: Choosing Joy Over Pleasure

Moses, in his youth, made a critical decision that shaped his destiny. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 11:24-26 that "by faith Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin." Moses chose the lasting joy of following God over the fleeting pleasures of Egypt. This is a powerful reminder to examine our own priorities.

Jesus: The Ultimate Example of Resisting Temptation

The Bible assures us in Hebrews 4:15 that Jesus "was tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin." Jesus faced every form of temptation imaginable, yet He remained sinless. But how did He achieve this victory? Matthew 4:1-11 reveals the secrets to Jesus' success:

He was filled with the Holy Spirit: Jesus' constant connection with the Holy Spirit empowered Him to resist temptation.

He was in the will of God: Jesus remained focused on God's purpose for His life, giving the devil no foothold.

Taking the First Step:

The message is clear: God is willing to forgive our past transgressions through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. To overcome temptation, we must first be willing to repent. Repentance, as Jesus preached, signifies a change of mind and a willingness to turn away from our old way of living and embrace God's path. It's not about achieving perfection, but about making a conscious decision to move in a new direction. God will be there to guide and support us on this journey, even when we stumble and make mistakes.

Remember, you are not alone in this battle. With faith in God and a genuine desire to overcome temptation, you can live a victorious life that glorifies Him.
