The Lion and the Clever Rabbit

How One Small Animal Outsmarted a King

By HamidPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

An Inspiring Tale of Wisdom Over Power

Once upon a time, in a vast and vibrant forest, there lived a cruel and powerful lion. This lion ruled the forest with fear and terror. Every single day, he would hunt and eat as many animals as he pleased. His hunger seemed endless, and the other animals lived in constant fear, knowing they might be the next to fall victim to his claws and teeth.

The forest, once full of life and joy, became a place of sadness and worry. The animals knew something had to change, or they would all be wiped out.

One day, the animals gathered together and came up with a bold idea. They decided to strike a deal with the lion.

They approached him nervously and said, “Oh mighty lion, we beg you to stop killing us at random. Instead, we propose a deal. If you promise to eat just one animal each day, then we will send one of us to you daily. That way, you won’t have to hunt, and we will live in less fear.”

The lion thought about it. The plan actually sounded good to him. It meant he wouldn’t have to chase or fight for his food anymore. So, he agreed. However, with a growl he warned, “If you ever break this deal—even for one day—I will go back to killing all of you!”

From that day on, the animals kept their promise. Each day, one unfortunate animal went to the lion, sacrificing itself so the others could be safe. Peace returned to the forest, though sadness remained in the hearts of the animals.

Then came the rabbit’s turn.

But unlike the others, this rabbit was not just gentle—he was clever. He didn’t want to become the lion’s lunch without a fight of wit. So, he came up with a plan that would save himself—and possibly the entire forest.

On the day of his visit, the rabbit walked slowly. He took his time, making sure he was very late. When he finally arrived at the lion’s den, the lion was furious.

“Why are you so late?” the lion roared. “You’ve broken the deal!”

The rabbit, calm and polite, bowed before the lion and said, “Oh mighty king, I am truly sorry. But I was delayed because another lion stopped me. He said he was the true king of the forest and that I should go to him instead.”

The lion's eyes flamed with rage. “Another king? In my forest? Take me to him now, and I’ll show him who the real king is!”

The rabbit nodded and led the lion deep into the forest. Eventually, they reached an old well in the middle of the woods. It was deep and filled with water. The rabbit pointed and said, “Look inside. He’s down there.”

The lion leaned over the well and saw his own reflection in the water. But in his pride and anger, he thought it was the rival lion.

Without thinking, the lion roared and leapt into the well to attack the “other lion.” With a loud splash, he disappeared into the deep water—and never came out.

The forest grew silent.

The rabbit had outsmarted the fierce lion with nothing but intelligence and courage. News of his clever plan spread quickly, and all the animals rejoiced. The days of fear were finally over.

From then on, the forest was filled with laughter, songs, and peace. And the little rabbit became a legend—proving to all that brains are mightier than brawn, and that courage and clever thinking can overcome even the greatest of threats.

Moral of the Story:

Wisdom and bravery can defeat even the strongest enemy. Never underestimate the power of intelligence.
