And you, what language do you speak and which one would you like to learn?

By Pablo EspinozaPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

We now live in a completely globalized world in which we all connect with everyone. As a result, learning languages is an excellent tool for advancing as a student and professional. And, while it is best to start learning a second language in childhood, it is never too late to start.

Today, learning another language is essential because other languages are used in most areas of knowledge and human development. For students, learning different languages is essential. It is no longer a waste of time, as many people believe, but rather an investment, because learning not only improves one's chances of getting a better job, but also enriches one's social and cultural life, because language is the key to culture.

The development of new societies as a result of economic and cultural integration necessitates the command of multiple languages. This poses significant challenges for students who must dare to enter a world where we are constantly communicating with people from other countries who speak different languages.

Learning other languages allows you to enrich your life by experiencing new ideas, exercising your mind, benefiting from global cultural diversity, obtaining scholarships for postgraduate studies, working in a transnational company, and increasing social relationships.

As you can see, learning another language is critical for your future; it will benefit you not only personally, but also professionally and academically. University exchanges or using the internet to talk or interact with people from different countries are better ways to learn languages.

Here are some of the most important languages for academic and professional success:

English: The fact that it is the most studied language in the world contributes to its power. The bulk of the most powerful nations use English, which is spoken on all five continents (USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia). In business, international trade, and online communication, it is the most commonly used language.

Mandarin Chinese: Its significance is owed to the fact that more than a billion people speak it, to China's recent economic boom, and to the expansion of trade ties between China, Latin America, and Spain. It is primarily used in China and neighboring nations including Indonesia, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

French: Speaking French is possible on all five continents. Around the world, more than 200 million people are thought to speak French. It is also the second language that is studied in schools to the highest standard in a good portion of the world.

Italian: is a language that has several benefits for people who know Spanish. Due to its geographical location and Latin roots, it is fairly simple to learn and use, and there are many opportunities to visit Italy and appreciate its cuisine, landscapes, and art. The only way to find the pearl of fashion, history, culture, and art is through its language, which has the property of sounding incredibly nice.

Spanish: this language should not be disregarded as a second language, even though studying it won't make you stand out in the United States (where it is spoken by 12% of the population). Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, behind Chinese, and is the official language of 21 countries. It should be included on the resumes of future diplomats, politicians, employees in the immigration sector, those who work in travel or tourism, among many other professions, as it is one of the official languages of the UN, the EU, the World Trade Organization, and the North American Free Trade Agreement. Spanish is a reference language in Europe as well, as many Europeans use it for travel throughout Central and South America.

German: German, which is the most frequently spoken language in Europe and the official language of Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein, is spoken as a first language by 18% of the continent's population. Germany is a powerhouse in the European economy and a significant supplier of everything from pharmaceuticals to automobiles. German is taught in many secondary schools around the world, creating a massive wave of foreign language programs as a result of business opportunities for international corporations. In actuality, this language is studied by around 68 percent of Japanese pupils. From a more positive perspective, Germans are among the world's most ardent travelers. Given their high salaries and generous vacation time, it is no surprise that Germans travel the world so much. Germans may benefit from this trend since their money goes directly to the global tourism sector. speakers of German from around the world. Do you still need a reason? Germany-speaking Switzerland has one of the highest standards of living in the world.
