THE ASSURANCE OF OUR SALVATION

Preamble

🌟 New Testament Greetings in the name and character of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I want to welcome everybody wherever you are listening or watching from! As a matter of introduction, I am Brother Lawrence Luke, a televangelist. Tonight, I have been privileged to proclaim on the topic captioned “The Assurance of our Salvation.” This is a very powerful topic worth discussing in the body of Christ!

Let’s turn our Bibles to the book of Isaiah. We read Isaiah Chapter 45 verse 22: “Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.” From prophet Isaiah, we are awakened to the reality that salvation has been God’s desire since the fall of mankind! Therefore, we need to first of all Understand God's Desire for Our Salvation!

God wants everyone to be saved and to fully understand the truth, as captured in 1 Timothy 2:4: “[God] desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” God’s desire is clear: He extends salvation to all, inviting us into a relationship with Him. Moreover, we are awakened to the reality that in the realm of salvation, God remains the Only One worth saving, as prophet Isaiah put it in Isaiah 45:22.

Then, the question arises: How or what does it take to acquire salvation? Is salvation attainable? Well, let the scriptures interpret themselves.

From the book of John 3:16 (NIV), it reads: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” In this verse, we find that salvation begins with love. God’s heart longs with affection for His creation. He doesn’t desire our destruction but offers a saving rescue mission through His Son. Meanwhile, salvation isn’t earned; it’s a gift. Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross pays the debt of sin we could never repay.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) says: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” In these verses, the apostle Paul captures the essence of salvation, whereby salvation begins with grace—the unmerited favor of God. We don’t earn it; we receive it. Grace lifts us from the pit of sin, and faith is the conduit. It’s not mere intellectual assent; it’s entrusting our lives to Jesus. Faith connects us to the Savior who redeems, restores, and transforms us. Hallelujah! Thus, salvation isn’t a self-made achievement.

To this far, brothers and sisters, we have established that salvation is a gift. It’s freely given, not because we deserve it, but because of God’s immense love and grace. How can we attain this free gift? This brings us to 1 John 5:12-13: “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” Oh my goodness, salvation is God’s pursuit of us!

In this verse, the apostle John brings to our attention the essence of salvation. Life—true and eternal life—is found in the Son of God. It’s not merely about knowing facts or adhering to religious rituals; it’s about a personal relationship with Jesus. When we embrace Him, we receive life abundant.

As the scriptures say in John 5:24: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” Jesus Himself assures us that belief in Him brings liberation from judgment. Why? Because, as Hebrews 7:25 states: “Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

The Role of Jesus Christ in Our Salvation

Thus, for us to attain eternal life, we need to have the Custodian of Eternal Life, that is, Jesus Christ! The prerequisite to salvation is having Christ. How? By believing that He is the Christ, the Son of God, who was crucified for our sins, was buried for our sins, but God raised Him from the dead for our redemption (salvation), which is the forgiveness of our sins. As Romans 4:25 declares: Jesus “was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.”

And truly, He said in John 5:24 that he who hears His word and believes Him who sent Him shall have eternal life and does not come into judgment but has passed from death into life! This is so because the same Jesus Whom we have believed in is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him since He always lives to make intercession for us (Hebrews 7:25).

The Assurance of Our Salvation in Christ

Suffice to say, in whom we have redemption, which is the forgiveness of our sins (Colossians 1:14). The good news is that He even became the propitiation for not only our sins but also the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2). And through this man is preached unto you, the forgiveness of sins. Hallelujah!

Once we believe in Christ, the book of Romans 8:16 assures us that “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are indeed children of God.” Hallelujah! Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God (1 John 3:1-3), us who were once darkness but in Christ whom we have believed in, made us the children of light (Ephesians 5:8), whose all our sins were crucified and buried together with Christ and through His resurrection, we attained salvation.

So, to this far, brothers and sisters, where is our assurance or security? The book of John chapter 10 verse 29 gives us the assurance that “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” That is, the salvation we have received in Christ Jesus, no man can snatch it from us. And since we have established that salvation is a free gift given, attained through faith in Christ Jesus, the book of Romans 11:29 highly persuades us that, “the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” Where “without repentance” means that God won't change His mind about what He has granted us in Christ, and our salvation in Him in particular! For Him alone is able to make you and me stand, be and stay in His presence of His glory blameless with great joy as noted by Jude 1:24.

So, my brothers and sisters in the Lord, to attain salvation, we must attain Jesus Christ. The assurance of our salvation rests on our faith in Jesus Christ. It is a gift of grace from God, freely given out of His immense love for us. This salvation is not something we can earn through our works, but it is a precious gift that we receive through faith. Our relationship with Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our salvation, and it is through this relationship that we experience true and eternal life.

Abba Father willing, see you next time, stay in His Salvation! As believers, we are called to live in the assurance of our salvation, knowing that God’s promise is eternal and without repentance. We are secure in His hands, and nothing can separate us from His love.

Otherwise, this marks the end of our preaching tonight. Thank you for joining me! Otherwise, stay in God’s Grace and may He abundantly and strengthen your faith as you walk with Him.

You were with me, your Brother in Christ
