The 5 Most Accurate AI Detectors Right Now - Tried & Verified
Forget the hype — here’s what real testing showed about today’s most trusted AI content detectors

Let me do a little test with you.
Can you distinguish between what is written by a machine and what is written by humans?
There are several ways to find out if a text was written by AI or by a person. One possibility is to use special tools or online services that can analyze writing style, grammar, word choice, and text structure.
Another option is to use machine learning methods. Deep learning models, for example, are trained to distinguish between AI and human texts. They use various metrics, such as perplexity and coherence, to evaluate the quality of the text.
Smodin
In our test, Smodin’s AI detector stood out as the only tool that confidently and accurately distinguished between human-written and AI-generated text. While other tools gave mixed or uncertain results, Smodin consistently identified the correct source of the content—making it the most reliable option in our comparison.
The tool uses a blend of natural language processing, contextual analysis, and machine learning to assess text. It doesn't just look at superficial markers like sentence length or predictability—it evaluates deeper syntactic and stylistic features to deliver a clear verdict on authorship.
Smodin is web-based and easy to access, with no registration required for basic use. Users can check short texts for free, though a character limit applies. For longer documents and unlimited checks, a paid subscription is available.
Professionals, authors, and content creators can benefit greatly from Smodin—not only for verifying originality but also for safeguarding against unintentional use of AI-generated content. It’s a powerful tool for anyone who needs to ensure the authenticity of their writing in an era where AI-generated text is increasingly common.
Sapling
Sapling is a free AI content detector and also performed very well in the test.
Sapling was able to identify 85% of the texts as AI texts with a very high probability. 8% of them were identified with medium probability and 7% were not identified.
The detector's user interface is minimalist and it is one of the fastest tools when it comes to providing results.
The verification process starts immediately after you enter the text; no clicking required.
Crossplag
In the test, Crossplag's AI Content Detector performed as well as Sapling's detectors, successfully recognizing 80 of the AI texts.
However, it fell further down in the test rankings because the probabilities for the AI texts were slightly lower.
This tool is free to use, however you may be asked to create an account if you submit more than one entry per day.
After registering, you can continue to use the detector for free.
KAZAN SEO
KAZAN SEO achieved a recognition rate of 67% of all AI texts, which is good but not impressive.
Some of the texts from Jasper and Neuroflash were not recognized as AI. Additionally, there were recurring problems with server capacity overload.
That's a shame. It’s free to use with an account, but the constant exhausted server capacity messages are annoying.
GROVER
GROVER is a language model developed by researchers at the University of Washington and the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2) to distinguish AI-generated news from real news.
However, in the free demo of the language model, it did not perform particularly well in recognizing AI texts.
The tool indicated that the text was written by AI in 33% of cases. Another 15% of the texts were classified as human-written, which is also not the case.
This may be because the software is from 2019 and therefore a little out of date.
Do AI text detectors also recognize plagiarism?
No, AI text detectors do not recognize plagiarism.
First, we must understand that plagiarism and AI texts are completely different. While plagiarism is a direct copy or modified version of an existing text, AI text is generated by an algorithm.
The algorithm takes a theme, learns from existing data, and then generates a completely new text. It’s like giving an artist a brush and canvas and asking them to paint a picture based on a theme—the artist will paint their interpretation of the prompt, but the image will never be a direct copy of an existing image.
Plagiarism checking is a process in which a text is checked against a database of existing texts to see if parts of it have been copied from another source. It's like a guard who ensures that no one uses someone else's work instead of their own.
Wrapping up
If you choose to use AI-generated texts, make sure they are of high quality—quality always comes before quantity!
In general, the AI text detectors discussed here are not particularly effective at analyzing texts in languages other than English. Of all the tools reviewed, only Smodin’s AI Detector was able to confidently differentiate between AI-generated and human-written texts.
