1. Installation and Setup

Download Tally ERP 9 from the official website and follow the installation wizard to install the software on your computer.

After installation, launch Tally ERP 9 and create a new company by selecting "Create Company" option from the "Gateway of Tally" screen.

Fill in the company details, such as name, address, financial year, and currency.

2. Creating Ledgers

A ledger is a record of all financial transactions in Tally ERP 9. To create a ledger, select "Accounts Info" from the Gateway of Tally screen and then choose "Ledgers."

Click on "Create" to create a new ledger and fill in the required details such as the name of the ledger, under which group it falls, and the opening balance.

3. Creating Groups

Groups in Tally ERP 9 are used to classify ledgers into various categories for easy reference. To create a group, select "Accounts Info" from the Gateway of Tally screen and then choose "Groups."

Click on "Create" to create a new group and fill in the required details such as the name of the group, under which parent group it falls, and the nature of the group.

4. Creating Stock Items

A stock item in Tally ERP 9 is a record of all inventory items. To create a stock item, select "Inventory Info" from the Gateway of Tally screen and then choose "Stock Items."

Click on "Create" to create a new stock item and fill in the required details such as the name of the item, unit of measure, rate, and opening balance.

5. Recording Transactions

To record a transaction in Tally ERP 9, select "Accounting Vouchers" from the Gateway of Tally screen and then choose the type of voucher you want to create, such as payment, receipt, or sales.

Enter the details of the transaction, such as the ledger account, the amount, and any additional information required.

After entering all the details, save the transaction.

6. Generating Reports

Tally ERP 9 allows you to generate various reports such as balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and stock summaries.

To generate a report, select "Display" from the Gateway of Tally screen and then choose the type of report you want to generate.

Customize the report by selecting the required options and filters and then click on "Display" to view the report.

Example:

Let's assume that ABC Corporation has the following transactions in a month:

Sales of goods worth $5,000 to XYZ Inc.

Payment of rent expenses worth $2,000.

Purchase of inventory worth $3,000 from PQR Corporation.

Here's how you can record these transactions in Tally ERP 9:

Create two ledgers "Sales" and "Rent Expenses" under the "Direct Expenses" and "Indirect Expenses" groups respectively.

Create a group - "Inventory" and a stock item - "Inventory 1" under this group.

Create a ledger - "Accounts Payable" under the "Sundry Creditors" group.

Record the sales transaction by selecting "Sales" from the voucher type menu and entering the required details, such as the ledger account, the amount, and any additional information required.

Record the rent expense payment transaction by selecting "Payment" from the voucher type menu and entering the required details, such as the ledger account, the amount, and any additional information required.

Record the purchase transaction by selecting "Purchase" from the voucher type menu and entering the required details, such as the ledger account, the amount, and any additional information required.

To generate reports, select "Display" from the Gateway of Tally screen and then choose the type of report you want to generate, such as "Profit and Loss Statement" or "Stock Summary."
