Smile

So I wanna talk about the video Smile (which I will be linking at the end of this article so you can go check it out and make your own theories on as I do not want my theory to be the theory on it and a warning this theory will talk about some heavy stuff so if you don’t like that then read no further you have been warned now, but for those who do not care and want to read an informative article then please proceed).

Now this video presents the message and story incredibly well for what I think this to be about, it is the right amount of realism and uncomfortableness that when watching it you really will get a very uneasy feeling which, rightfully you should.

What is this about exactly, well in my personal opinion this is about mental illness and how those suffering with things like depression or anxiety or any of the other disorders in the book very much often do have a hard time fitting it with the group and have to actually struggle to do so, as well as the persecution given to them by the outside world and society in general all for something they can not control.

As someone with a mental disability (autism) I can protest that society can be very cruel despite their claims of expectancy it is often the exact opposite when it truly boils down to it. I fully do believe that the council people, they represent society as a whole and how we as a generalized society are basically forcing those who even have a remote difference than us (such as the young man in this video) to conform to what we think is normal (albeit normal has no true definitive definition to it). But I think that the council forcing the young man to smile that it symbolizes the often cold and harsh misunderstanding of those with mental problems and the spears that shoot through the man indicate how harsh words can truly cut very deep.

I believe fully and wholeheartedly that at the end of this film when our protagonist (if you can call him that) dies by the spears streaked thru him, this symbolizes him doing an action that bullying often does lead to tragically.

So basically all in all what this boils down to is that this is about societies persecution of those with mental illnesses or those who are different in anyway at all,
