Reading culture organized to help spread good habits

On the afternoon of May 16, 2025, TDTU INSPiRE Library held the Award Ceremony for contests under the program series celebrating Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2025. The event took place in a warm, solemn, and emotional atmosphere. It was also a special occasion to honor the outstanding efforts and achievements of TDTU students in two contests: the Online Contest with the theme "Kindling the Flame of Knowledge" and the Book Cover Design Contest with the theme "The Future Era."

The Online Contest themed "Kindling the Flame of Knowledge" was organized to promote a love for books, foster a sustainable reading culture within the student community, and connect book lovers on digital platforms. Participants entered the contest by sharing creative photos with books and reflective writings about a book that inspired them on their journey of learning and personal growth. After the contest’s launch, it received enthusiastic participation from students across the university. The ten entries with the highest emotional engagement were honored during the ceremony, as a well-deserved recognition of their passion for reading and their efforts to spread the values of reading culture.

The Book Cover Design Contest, themed "The Future Era," served as a creative playground for students passionate about graphic design and artistic expression. The contest encouraged participants to merge design skills with fresh perspectives on literary works, presenting them through the lens of technology, artificial intelligence, and futuristic scenarios. After nearly a month of promotion, the contest attracted many impressive submissions, showcasing aesthetic sensitivity and depth in content interpretation. Contestants were free to redesign book covers in a futuristic style or reinterpret book content in a modern, high-tech setting—thus enriching the visual identity of inspiring books. In addition to the professional judging round, an online voting round was held to encourage community interaction. The entries not only demonstrated design capabilities but also contributed to bringing art closer to reading culture in the digital age.

Create a playground for young people

This event aims to honor individuals involved in collecting, composing, publishing, preserving, and promoting books. It also seeks to enhance the responsibility of all levels, sectors, and social organizations in fostering a reading culture, ultimately contributing to the development of a learning society and enriching the cultural fabric of social life.

Currently, the Provincial Library houses approximately 600,000 books. In recent times, the library has been evolving by updating and supplementing its electronic resources to meet the growing needs of readers. To date, the Provincial Library has digitized over 20,000 pages of documents related to Binh Duong geography, purchased access rights to about 2 million electronic documents, and acquired copyrights for over 2,000 audiobooks to serve its patrons.

This year, as implementing a plan of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize the fourth Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2025; under the direction of Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Binh Duong Provincial Library organized activities to celebrate Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day with the message "Reading Culture - Connecting the Community". The main activities include promoting the significance of the 4th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2025; exhibition of new books, authors, and works written about Binh Duong; coordinating with high schools and universities to issue library cards to students, teachers, and lecturers, etc.

As part of a series of activities in response to the event, localities in the province organized various initiatives to encourage community participation. Specifically, the Ben Cat City Culture, Sports, and Broadcasting Center collaborated with the City Education and Training Office and the City Youth Union to host the "Ring the Golden Bell" contest and a Book Reading Festival. The "Golden Bell" contest attracted 90 contestants, all of whom are junior high school students from the area. In addition to this contest, 400 students from primary and junior high schools also participated in the meaningful Book Reading Festival.

Meanwhile, Tan Uyen City created a space for book exhibitions and specialized information on the occasion of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21), associated with important events such as the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, the Liberation of Tan Uyen and the 135th birthday of Uncle Ho. Activities included: book displays, artistic book stacking models, mobile book carts, reading promotion games...

These are meaningful activities, enriching the playground for students; encouraging and creating reading habits among the people, especially the young generation, thereby contributing to developing a reading culture in the community.

Share good books

Reading is a journey of discovery that offers everyone, regardless of age, the opportunity to explore and establish their own values through books. For children, books not only aid in developing critical thinking but also serve as an endless source of inspiration to explore the world around them. Fairy tales and thrilling adventures found in books help children form their identities while stimulating their imagination and creativity.

For young adults, books become trusted companions that provide insights into social issues, life philosophies, and human values. Reading works on psychology, science, or classic literature opens up new perspectives, enabling young people to shape their thoughts and foster personal growth.

Reading also plays a crucial role in expanding professional knowledge, allowing workers to improve their skills and better meet job demands. In today's globalized and competitive environment, reading is essential for continuous development and adaptation.

As we look forward to Vietnam Book Day on April 21, we recognize that it is more than just a celebration; it is an opportunity for everyone to reignite their love for books and promote the importance of a reading culture. We encourage everyone, from children to the elderly, to share their favorite books and inspiring stories, inviting them back into the world of reading. By engaging with books, we not only acquire knowledge but also contribute to building a civilized community and a sustainable society. The Book Festival marks the beginning of a new journey where knowledge and culture are honored and celebrated.
