Ramadan

Things to do in ramadan

By Ahmed MughalPublished 3 years ago 4 min read

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and it is a time for spiritual reflection, prayer and fasting. During this period Muslims all around the globe commit to abstaining from food, drink and any other sensual pleasures during daylight hours. The purpose of fasting in Ramadan is essentially twofold: self-restraint and drawing nearer to God through acts of devotion such as charitable giving or praying at nightfall.

During Ramadan Muslims also partake in special Qur’anic readings that culminate with Laylat al-Qadar or Night Of Power — when Allah first revealed parts of the Qu’ran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is considered an extremely blessed night and one must stay up late into the pre-dawn praying and meditating about spiritual matters as much as possible throughout its revered twelve hours.

Aside from all these religious practices undertaken by individuals, entire Muslim communities may come together during Ramadan via communal meals called iftar just after dusk serving traditional foods like dates which symbolize breaking fast . Townships are usually illuminated with richly colorful lights while mosques stand out even more stunningly under fluorescent decorations meant both spiritually fascinating visitors while kindly directing them towards their destinations

To sum up , Ramadan holds deep meanings within each believer; however not only does it bring countless moments closer to faith but develops strong family bonds among members amidst sharing stories over Iftar & Suhoor gatherings where culinary secrets pass on generations every single year!
