Prepare Preschool Kids For A Gender-Neutral Future

Preschoolers have an easier time because they are at the foundation of any social behaviour with the help of assistive technology for preschoolers.

Raising children in a gender-neutral environment is a difficult task in India. Parents who want to raise their children in this manner must be courageous, objective, and fully committed to the process. Of course, the process is ongoing, and they must be on the same page in terms of opinions as they want their children to be. However, this is only possible if the children learn the same thing in school as they do at home. Preschoolers have an easier time because they are at the foundation of any social behaviour with the help of assistive technology for preschoolers.

Starting from the neutral

Preschoolers will learn based on what their parents and teachers, who are also second parents to them, teach them. Gender is a system designed to keep people in boxes, and our country is still dealing with such issues. To counteract what the previous generation has taught us, young parents and teachers must neutralise their methods of educating their children by showing them female-oriented comic books and male-oriented movies doing household chores.

Let them Choose

Preschool Activities are an important component of the curriculum in pre-schools. Teachers must ensure that they allow students to choose what they like and dislike. Moving away from pinks and blues, children must learn that it is acceptable for a boy to wear pink and for a girl to prefer blue. It does not imply that we should eliminate gender as a form, but rather that we should reduce its impact and limit the stereotypes associated with gender labels. Gender-neutral games, selecting their favourite colour, selecting their favourite dress, and allowing boys and girls to play together are all examples of activities.

Preach What you Teach

Gender-neutral behaviour originates at home. Parents and teachers must understand that a child learns from their elders by mimicking their parents' behaviour; how they interact with individuals, how they perform gender-neutral duties at home, and how they look up to the sexualities of those around them.

Gender-Neutral Words

Here are some words that should be changed in everyday conversation.

  1. Fireman- Firefighter
  2. Chairman- Chairperson
  3. Mankind- Humankind
  4. Mother/Father- Parent
  5. Men/Women- People
  6. Handsome/Beautiful- Attractive/Good-looking
  7. or Mrs. – Mx (pronounced “mix”)

Noticing Bias and Acknowledging Mistakes

We can't expect preschoolers to behave like adults. Some children have the luxury of gender-neutral behaviour in their homes, while others do not. Teachers in preschools provide children with a basic understanding of the environment, which is especially important because children at this age are naturally curious about their surroundings. Teachers must recognise biassed behaviour and allow students to admit their errors while also providing a positive assertion. Not only should preschoolers learn to acknowledge help, but they should also learn this social behaviour at a young age in order to live in a better world.

Shaping their Future

Being in a gender-neutral environment will aid preschool children in developing higher levels of emotional intelligence through preschool learning aids. The absence of gender-specific rules allows the child to pursue their interests and needs. For example, if a girl prefers to wear a T-shirt and shorts and a boy prefers long hair or painted nails, they still prefer to be of a certain gender. It will always result in their personal development, happiness, and health. Gender-neutral children become more creative, truthful, and self-confident, and eventually become liaisons for gender equality in their schools and cultures.
