As promised here is more on anxiety disorders starting with another theory one known as 'humanistic' this is one theory that states when children have developed a harsh set of standards to achieve and maintain to be acceptable to them and others. Another theory is known as 'extentialism' and anxiety is when there is an universal fear of limits and responsibilities of your existence. The 'cognitive' theory is when the conscious and the unconscious thoughts are focused on threats and are constantly thinking about it. The 'biological' theory is when the neurotransmitters (GABA) when a deficiency of GABA receptors/transmitters are excessively firing in the limbic system. The 'genetic' theory is that some are born to a biological vulnerability to have Generalized Anxiety.
The Socio-Cultural perspective in working with anxiety is when there are group differences along with environmental pressure to the various social and cultural norms. Women are more likely to have this issue. We must follow it seems the gender rules/roles to society. 'You have feelings you have to do it all.' In dealing with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) there are sociological factors the contribute to the severity and duration along with the proximity to the person of the trauma that could be long lasting and intense. There is social support available and recovery is quicker with having social support systems. This is a chance to have more chances to discuss feelings and deal with the memories. There are psychological matters as a shattering assumption(s) like these feelings are invulnerable but things happen to other people. We live in a just and fair world and it makes sense. There are also pre-existing distress having stress and more stress put upon them. The coping style and mechanisms can be more vulnerable and avoidance will have them ruminate and disassociate to try to make sense of things. PTSD is unable to do any of these not to master their own problem.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a systematic desensitivation that creates a fear hierarchy where memories are provoking thoughts and situations. In this therapy we learn to relax through various relaxation skills that help us in dealing with our fears. There is one suggestion is that we bring a friend along to help when needed. We will learn to challenge these irrational thoughts through various kinds of exercises to correct errors in thinking, as in thought-stopping and even yelling 'No!' and when the particular thought stops we can bounce back and stare and then redirect to a better thought. There are stress management techniques to use as well that teach us the basic skills on how to cope with these problems. There are also biological and anti-anxiety and depressant medications that can and could be used in various circumstances.
What are Phobias?
Phobias are a persistent and strong feeling of unwarrented fear of an object, person, or situation. The anxiety will be overwhelming that affects behaviorally and we try to avoid these fearful stimuli and can't. Children do not feel their phobias as excessive as adults do, but they will or may have another disorder that deals with mood, anxiety and even substance abuse.
Anything will or can be a phobia and some are biologically predisposed.
1. Agoraphobia which is the fear of public places where there is a need to escape or need help and/or be able to help. There are panic like symptoms and may cause embarrassment. 'Fainting' showing a loss of body functions from a catastrophic issue for our thinking processes are overwhelmingly embarrassing and very sensitive to our bodily functions and sensations. There have been misinterpretations made in dealing and learning about this issue.
2. Social phobias are the fear of intense criticisms and being scrutinized in a social or public performance, as in public speaking, meeting new people, but one is okay in private but still feels overwhelmed in public, and avoids public performances or perform and endure the fear (anxiety) and may humiliate self.
