La Rambla: a joyous venue in Barcelona

A must-see when traveling to Spain

In Barcelona, there is a street that cuts through the city center with a dizzying mix of elements: historic buildings, bird and flower markets, performance art. Some people call it Wanderer Street, so that this romantic name has been handed down, making people forget her real name: La Rambla Street.

Cervantes once said that Barcelona is the most beautiful city in the world. It is like a colorful stage, with bright sunshine, blue sky and crystal clear sea as the background, interpreting Spanish-style passion. At the center of this stage is that long boulevard: La Rambla. One end of it points to the Sagrada Familia, which has not been completed for more than a hundred years, and the other end stretches out to the vast Mediterranean Sea. Since the 19th century, La Rambla has received painters, musicians, and performance enthusiasts from all over Europe, becoming a gathering place for artistic dreams. Today, as a city icon, it tells people that Barcelona is such a wonderful and multicultural city.

One day in the 19th century, a merchant from the Catalan countryside came to Barcelona with a stack of beautifully fired clay pots. It was winter, and people on the street were hurrying with their heads down, and no one took care of his business. . In order to pass the boring time, he took out the ocarina he carried with him to entertain himself. The sound of music attracted flower hawkers, who stopped to appreciate the beautiful flute sound, and then some passersby also gathered around... The more and more people gathered, when the song ended, perhaps out of politeness, someone went to the hawker A coin was thrown into the clay pot, which attracted onlookers to follow suit. At the end of the day, the pot did not sell much, but brought back a lot of coins. As a result, the vendor stopped doing the pot business and became a full-time piper.

Soon, several college students came to Barcelona from Paris and decided not to leave after walking around Las Ramblas. They formed a small group similar to a "band" and performed all kinds of antics to the accompaniment of drums.

Just as a small sneeze caused a flu, the "artists" on the street began to flow in an endless stream. Those who were performing arts, those who were underappreciated, and those who were eager to express all found an opportunity to show here, and even more so. Some people came from all over the world, and the rent of the old houses on both sides of Labrador Street immediately rose sharply. By 1977, La Rambla had become famous for various artistic performances and became a "spot" for tourists who came to Barcelona to go straight.

Today's Rambla Street is a "24-hour" performing arts venue. In addition to the traditional singing and dancing, the most amazing thing is the "sculptures" dressed up by people. Various historical figures and mythological figures are tangled together for a while. There are "Cleopatra" waving to you, and then "angels" smiling at you, "Roman Soldiers" on the left, "Skulls" on the right, "Skulls" dancing, "Devils" singing, and even "Spiders". Heroes" and "Jedi" ("Star Wars" characters) also came from Hollywood to join in the fun. The imagination and talent of genius are brought to the fore through street art. The fall of night could not make this "masquerade party" come to an end, and more exciting events flocked to the stage in the lights. The gypsy astrologer, known for his "mysticism", holds a crystal ball and "points the maze" for those who want to predict the future. There are also various feminists and members of green organizations demonstrating here.

The hustle and bustle also gave the thieves the opportunity to lead the sheep. For the police near Lambura Street, this was the most tense and busy time of the day.

However, The day and night carnival on La Rambla often attracted "complaints" from the surrounding residents, and the relevant authorities had to come forward, stipulating that the volume of the performance "cannot exceed 70 decibels.", "Artists imitating sculptures are limited to 1.5 square meters space” Otherwise, district managers and police have the right to interfere with performances and impose fines and confiscation of equipment.

Even so, there are still many people who come here to interpret their own lives while performing wonderfully. What's more interesting is that many artists start from there.
