Is the NEET 2026 Syllabus Updated?
There are no official updates yet. However, there are ongoing discussions between the Ministry of Education and the National Health Commission (NMC) about NEET exam.

A lot of Indian students want to know about NEET exam and if there has been any update in the syllabus. The recent examination of NEET 2025 has been a tough one for many Indian students who wanted to get admission in the medical colleges. The cut-off score was 686 in 2025 which was much lower than the cut-off from the NEET 2024. There have been changes in the NEET-UG this year, and we will look at what these changes are. Overview of the NEET Syllabus 2026
The students who want to know about NEET exam can look at the NEET 2026 syllabus. There are core subjects, which consist of three main subjects - Physics, chemistry, and biology. These subjects comprise the following units, as shown in the table below.

What is the General NEET-UG Exam Pattern?
Before we dive into the changes of NEET 2025, let’s know about NEET exam pattern that goes on in India, as per the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NEET examination consists of the questions related to three main subjects - Physics, chemistry, and biology. The total number of questions in the NEET syllabus are 180, and contains these numbers of questions from each subject:
Physics – 45 Questions
Chemistry – 45 Questions
Biology – 90 Questions
45 Questions from Zoology
45 Questions from Botany
The total duration of the NEET exam is 180 minutes, lasting up to 3 hours, leading to the duration per question of only 1 minute. You should know about NEET exam: for each right answer, the marks are +4, and for each wrong answer, the rewarded marks are -1.
NEET 2026 Syllabus Changes
So, has there been any change in the NEET syllabus? As per the official notification from the National Testing Agency (NTA), there have been no changes in the NEET 2026 syllabus, and there are no NEET exam updates yet for 2026. However, there are ongoing discussions between the Ministry of Education and the National Health Commission (NMC) about NEET exam, and it might change with the newly implemented National Curriculum Framework (NCF 2023) under the NEP (National Education Policy).
Also, there have been changes in the NCERT textbooks, which is aligned with the examination of NEET 2026. There have been reductions in the books, with some chapters and units reduced, and syllabus rationalisation has been implemented in the new books. However, an official notification from the NTA regarding the NEET syllabus 2026 is awaited.
Conclusion
Although there have been no official changes in the syllabus, there are slight changes in the NCERT books, which are directly related to the NEET 2026 syllabus. The Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency (NTA) are discussing about NEET exam, and it might change because of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF 2023) under the NEP (National Education Policy). However, all the NEET aspirants in India must wait for a final and official declaration/announcement from the National Testing Agency (NTA).
