I Used ChatGPT to Run My Life for a Week—Here’s the Shocking Outcome
We've all read the headlines—AI is dominating everything. From composing emails to meal planning, apps like ChatGPT are touted as the ultimate life organizer.
We've all read the headlines—AI is dominating everything. From composing emails to meal planning, apps like ChatGPT are touted as the ultimate life organizer. Intrigued (and a bit dubious), I plunged in.
For a whole week, I handed over control to ChatGPT of nearly all aspects of my daily routine. I allowed it to schedule my day, dictate what I should eat, how I should work, how I should unwind, and even how I should text my friends.
What ensued? Let's just say it was much more surprising (and eye-opening) than I had anticipated.
Day 1: The Control Shift
The first morning was unusual. I usually scroll my phone, look at the ceiling, and delay getting out of bed. Instead, I asked ChatGPT:
"What's the best way to start my day for maximum productivity and happiness?"
In seconds, it provided me with a comprehensive morning routine:
Wake up at 6:30 AM
Drink a glass of water
Stretch for 5 minutes
Write 3 things I'm grateful for
Plan the day's top priorities
It sounded suspiciously too good, like a Pinterest board of self-help tips. But I went along with it. And you know what? My morning was strangely peaceful and deliberate. No doomscrolling, no flailing around.

Day 2: Meal Planning Madness
I have absolutely no meal prep skills, and my fridge is a wasteland of expired hummus and half-consumed takeout. So I asked ChatGPT:
"Plan my meal for today based on what's in my fridge."
After making a list of the pathetic stuff in my fridge, ChatGPT provided me with:
Breakfast: Honey and walnuts with Greek yogurt
Lunch: Random salad with spinach, eggs, and leftover chicken
Dinner: Stir-fry with frozen veggies and rice
I actually ended up having well-balanced meals for once. More surprising? I felt oddly proud for not resorting to instant noodles.
Who would have guessed an AI would have me eat like a high-functioning adult?
Day 3: Work Like a Machine (Sort of)
Work is where I was expecting ChatGPT to really shine. I'm a wild card at being productive—there are days where I'm like a machine and days where I just sit staring at my computer screen like a lobotomized sloth.
I prompted: "Build a hyper-productive work calendar for my 8-hour workday."
ChatGPT responded with:
8:30 AM - 9:00 AM: Review goals
9:00 AM - 10:30 AM: Unadulterated deep work (no breaks)
10:30 AM–10:45 AM: Brief pause
10:45 AM - 12:00 PM: Concentrated work
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch and light exercise
1:00 PM-3:30 PM: Brainstorming (creativity session)
3:00 PM - 3:15 PM: Short break again
3:15 PM - 5:00 PM: Emails, admin, and tidy-up
It sounded wonderful on paper—but reality struck hard. By 10:00 AM, I was drained. By 2:00 PM, I was hankering for chaos scrolling.
Lesson? AI can recommend, but only I can really do the work.
Day 4: AI as My Social Life Coach
This was the day I chose to leave my texts and social life to ChatGPT. Whenever I needed to respond to a friend, I asked:
“What’s the best response to this text?”
The results were hilarious. My casual “What’s up?” became:
"Hey! How’s your week going so far? Been thinking about our last conversation—hope everything’s going well!"
My friends thought I’d either been abducted by aliens or taken a mindfulness retreat. While polished, the messages lacked my sarcastic, chaotic energy.
Takeaway? AI can polish, but it can’t mimic personality.
Day 5: AI Plans My Free Time
Evening is my procrastination zone. Netflix, TikTok, and doomscrolling are my best friends. I posed:
"What can I do tonight that is fun, budget-friendly, and screen-free?"
ChatGPT replied:
Take a sunset stroll
Experience a new recipe
Call a friend from way back when
Write about the week in your journal
It was wholesome as hell—like something my therapist's ideal version of me would say. Go against all intuition, I obeyed the directive.
Weirdly enough, it was amazing. Picking up the phone to call a friend rather than scrolling through TikTok until my eyes were bleeding? Real joy.
Perhaps AI has some insight that I don't.
Day 6: AI vs. My Mental Health
I also wanted to know if ChatGPT could assist with anxiety and stress. So I asked:
"I'm feeling stressed today. What can I do to calm down?"
Its guidance was sound:
Breathe deeply for 5 minutes
Take a quick walk
Write about how I feel
Give progressive muscle relaxation a try
I did them all, and to my sincere amazement, I was relaxed. Sure, my issues didn't go away—but having a strategy made me feel less stuck.
Perhaps AI can't provide therapy, but it can certainly provide some nudges in the direction of better habits.
Day 7: The Reflection (and the Twist)
By day 7, I had discovered something crazy:
ChatGPT didn't merely make decisions for me—it compelled me to get more strategic about my time.
When I was on autopilot (prior to AI), I defaulted to the path of least resistance:
Scrolling in lieu of calling up friends
Takeout instead of making food
Procrastination instead of getting work done
When I had ChatGPT choose, I defaulted to options that actually benefited me—healthier dinners, productive work blocks, quality social time.
The Shocking Outcome
Here's the bombshell:
AI did not make me robotic. AI made me humaner.
By delegating choices, I saved mental space. Rather than stalling over dinner or what I would do that night, I simply did it.
And wonder of wonders. My mood elevated. My work output skyrocketed. My tension plummeted.
Of course, ChatGPT wasn't ideal. It had some laughably impractical recommendations (such as recommending a sudden 3-hour hike during a workday). And its tonelessness and absence of personality had my texts sounding like a business newsletter.
That being said? I learned that:
???? Decision fatigue is real—and AI can assist in alleviating it.
???? Tiny deliberate decisions accumulate into major life improvements.
???? AI can't live my life for me, but it can be a surprisingly great co-pilot.
