Getting Out of the Rat Race: Education is the Pathway to Freedom

The freedom we are talking about is freedom from the rat race. Freeing ourselves from the rat race is an important step on the path to taking more control over our lives. If you have been searching for a way to stop being a slave to money, right here is a good place to start.

What is the rat race?

The rat race is a term that may be used to describe a frustrating and difficult to break financial lifestyle that many of us are living today. We go to work month after month just for the paycheque. A paycheque that no matter how hard or how long we work, it is just not enough to cover all of our monthly living expenses. The rat race is the misconception that our boss is obligated to pay us more.

The rat race may also be defined as insanity, that is, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. There are options for breaking the cycle and getting out of the rat race. One such option is financial education.

What is financial education?

Financial education is what separates those of us who have and keep getting money from those of us who never seem to have enough money. Financial education helps us to understand how money works. It is possible to make money work for us instead of us having to break our necks and bend our backs to get it. The correct education ensures that we will always have enough money flowing to us. This education goes way beyond getting good grades in school and it is not only for investors.

Why is financial education important?

Financial education is not only important for getting out of the rat race. We have always been responsible for managing our own finances. However, events such as the recession of 2008 have made financial education and awareness increasingly important for our financial well-being. These events tipped the scale of balance for how we defined assets and liabilities.

Financial education has become increasingly important because it is now essential for the average family to learn how to finance the children’s education, buy a home, balance its budget and ensure that there is sufficient income during retirement.

Many of us are feeling a high level of financial anxiety and stress. However, it does not have to be that way. We can either choose the rat race or choose freedom. There are no guarantees or quick fixes.

Is there a conspiracy against our education?

Have you ever wondered why our school system focuses mainly on teaching us how to get a good job but not so much on how to own and/or create these jobs?

Has our education system been manipulated? Is it deliberate that we do not learn about the fundamentals of money at school? If we learnt about how money works at an earlier age, would so many of us be carrying so much bad debt?

Our school system was not designed to support the concept that each and every one of us can be financially free. Some may even laugh and call this concept ludicrous.

Is it time for an educational reform towards financial education in schools? If we do not reform in this direction is it that we will continue to set our children up for failure by not giving them the necessary tools?

If we had learnt more about money in school would we be living in fear that we might lose our jobs?

Is it that we have given up our freedom for a steady income? Is this also the reason why some of us expect the government and/or our employer to solve our financial problems?
