Ennis Del Mar sat on his bed, staring out the window at the snow-covered mountains in the distance. He had just returned from a job herding sheep and was exhausted, but he couldn't sleep. His mind kept drifting back to the summer he spent with Jack Twist on Brokeback Mountain.

Ennis had been hired to watch over a flock of sheep for the summer, and Jack was his partner. At first, Ennis had been hesitant to open up to Jack, but as they spent more time together, he found himself drawn to the younger man.

They had shared a tent, and one night, they had gotten drunk and ended up sleeping together. Ennis had never been with a man before, but something about Jack made him feel alive in a way he had never felt before.

But when the summer was over, they went their separate ways. Ennis got married and had two children, while Jack went off to Texas to work on a rodeo. They kept in touch through letters, but it wasn't the same as being together.

Years went by, and Ennis and Jack's lives took very different paths. Ennis struggled to make ends meet, working as a ranch hand and living in a small trailer with his wife and kids. Meanwhile, Jack became a successful businessman, but he was never able to forget about Ennis.

One day, Jack reached out to Ennis, asking if they could meet up again. Ennis was hesitant at first, but he couldn't resist the pull he felt towards Jack. They met up in a hotel room in Texas, and once again, they found themselves unable to resist each other.

They began a secret affair, meeting up whenever they could, but they both knew it couldn't last forever. Ennis was afraid of what would happen if anyone found out about their relationship, and Jack was tired of hiding his true self.

Eventually, Ennis and Jack had to say goodbye once again. They promised to meet up one more time the following year, but fate had other plans. Jack was brutally murdered, and Ennis was left to mourn the loss of the only person he had ever truly loved.

Ennis never forgot about Jack, even after years had passed. He kept a shirt that Jack had left behind, and whenever he smelled it, he was transported back to the time they spent together on Brokeback Mountain.

As he sat on his bed, staring out at the snow, Ennis knew that he would never be able to forget about Jack. He wished that things could have been different, that they could have been together without fear or shame. But he knew that was just a dream, and all he could do was hold onto the memories of the time they spent together and hope that one day, they would be reunited in some way.

Their relationship continued on and off for several years, with both men getting married and starting families, but they could never forget each other. Ennis in particular struggled with the guilt and shame of his love for Jack, leading to a tragic end for their relationship.

An iconic scene from the film adaptation of the story by Annie Proulx features Ennis and Jack embracing each other on the mountain, with Ennis crying out "I swear" as they part ways for what they believe will be the final time.

The story of Brokeback Mountain is a powerful exploration of the complexities of human love and desire, and the devastating consequences of denying one's true self. It is a reminder that the most authentic and fulfilling relationships are often those that defy societal norms and expectations, and that love knows no bounds.
