a British officer once slapped an Indian citizen

In British colonial India, a British officer once slapped an Indian citizen. The Indian citizen responded by slapping the officer with all his might and knocking him to the ground.

The officer was shocked by this humiliating blow and left, wondering how an Indian citizen dared to slap an officer of the British army, which is part of an

empire on which the sun never sets. He went to his headquarters to report the incident and ask for help in punishing the citizen.

But the senior officer calmed him down and took him to his office, and opening a treasury full of

money, said: "Take fifty thousand rupees from the treasury, and go to this Indian citizen and apologize to him, and give him this money as compensation."

The officer went mad and protested: "I have the right to slap and humiliate him, he slapped me when he had no right, it is an insult to me, to you, and to the Queen's army, but also to the Queen herself."

The senior officer said to the junior officer: "Consider this a military order that you have to follow without any discussion." The officer obeyed his commander's orders, took the money and went to the Indian citizen and said:

"Please accept my apology, I slapped you and you responded, we are equal, and this fifty thousand rupees is a gift with my apology."

The Indian citizen accepted the apology and the gift and forgot that he had been slapped by a colonial ruler on his own land.

Fifty thousand rupees was considered a huge fortune at that time, the citizen bought a house with part of this money, saved a part, and bought a "rickshaw" (a three-wheeled vehicle used in India) with part, and invested some in trade and transportation.

His condition improved and with time he became a businessman and forgot the slap, but the British did not forget the slap of the Indian citizen.

After some time, the British commander called the officer who had been slapped and said:

"Do you remember the Indian citizen who slapped you?"

The officer said: "How can I forget?"

The commander said: "It is time for you to go and find him and slap him in front of a large crowd of people without any preamble."

The officer said: "He slapped me when he had nothing, today when he has become a businessman and has supporters and guards, he will not only slap me but kill me."

The commander said: "He will not kill you, go and obey the order without any argument."

The officer obeyed his commander's orders and went to the Indian, surrounded by his supporters, servants, guards and a crowd of people. He slapped the Indian citizen with all his strength and knocked him to the ground.

The Indian citizen did not react, he did not even dare to look at the officer.

The officer was surprised and quickly returned to his commander.

The commander said to the officer: "I see surprise and astonishment on your face?"

The officer said: "Yes, the first time he slapped me with more force when he had nothing, and today when he has power, he did not even dare to say anything, how is this possible?"
