7 BOOKS ABOUT AUTISM FEATURING BLACK CHARACTERS

Creating diversity and inclusion in today's market with books about autism featuring black characters

By Crystal JordanPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

The market needs to feature more black characters with autism. Black kids are underrepresented in the book market, so the market is falling. Diversity is important for black kids on the spectrum. Upon my son's diagnosis when he was two years old, I noticed the lack of representation for him when I searched for books featuring black kids with autism. Holly Pete's book came up the most, however, I wanted to find other books as I feel often my community is overlooked.

By writing children's books that celebrate black children, I am helping to solve this problem. When I became an author, I met other moms like me who are also authors and passionate about autism awareness.
