Beyond the Pillar of Balance

why earth is flat?.

By John Lloyd CubillasPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Once upon a time, in a fantastical world different from our own, there existed a mysterious and enigmatic land called "Astraea." In Astraea, the prevailing belief was that the Earth was flat, and this notion had been ingrained in the minds of its inhabitants for generations.

At the heart of Astraea stood the "Pillar of Balance," a colossal structure that rose high into the sky. The Pillar was said to hold the secrets of the universe and was revered by the people as a symbol of stability and wisdom. The rulers and scholars of Astraea propagated the idea that the flat Earth was the center of the cosmos, and the Pillar of Balance ensured that it remained that way.

Beyond the borders of Astraea, the world was an uncharted and perilous territory. The edge of the Earth, according to ancient legends, was guarded by fierce creatures and endless abysses. So, no one dared to venture far from the safety of their homeland.

In this world of wonder and mystery, there lived a young and curious astronomer named Alistair. Unlike most of his fellow Astraeans, Alistair couldn't fully accept the idea of a flat Earth. He spent countless nights observing the heavens through his telescope, watching the celestial bodies move across the sky in intricate patterns.

One clear night, as Alistair gazed at the stars, he noticed something peculiar. The stars seemed to shift in a way that didn't fit the narrative of a flat Earth. Intrigued, he began to meticulously record his observations, hoping to find answers to his questions.

As Alistair's knowledge grew, he became more convinced that the Earth was not flat. He discovered that the celestial bodies' movements could be better explained if the Earth were a spherical object, just like the other planets and stars he observed. Yet, he feared the consequences of challenging the deeply ingrained beliefs of Astraea.

But Alistair's curiosity and passion for the truth proved stronger than his fears. He decided to present his findings to the Astraea Council, hoping they would be open to considering his discoveries. To his surprise, the council reacted with resistance and hostility. They saw his ideas as a threat to the stability of their society, a disruption to the traditional way of life they had known for centuries.

Undeterred, Alistair sought to prove his theory with a daring expedition to the far reaches of Astraea. He gathered a group of brave companions who believed in him and his vision of an undiscovered truth. Their journey took them through treacherous landscapes, across dense forests, and over vast oceans.

After many months of arduous travel, they reached the edge of Astraea. There, they were met with the sight of an awe-inspiring revelation—the Earth curved gently, embracing the vastness of the universe beyond. Alistair's heart swelled with joy and wonder as he realized that he had discovered the truth hidden from his people for so long.

Filled with excitement, Alistair and his companions returned to Astraea, determined to share their findings with the world. They faced resistance and skepticism, but Alistair's unwavering dedication and evidence slowly began to change minds. The people of Astraea started to question their beliefs and look beyond the Pillar of Balance for knowledge and wisdom.

Over time, the truth spread across the land, and Astraea transformed into a place of enlightenment and understanding. Alistair's bravery and passion had shattered the illusion of a flat Earth, paving the way for a new era of exploration and discovery.

And so, in this remarkable world of Astraea, the tale of the young astronomer who proved the Earth was not flat became a beacon of hope for those seeking truth, knowledge, and the courage to challenge the status quo.
