Alien or Ancient Human? The Truth Behind Peru’s Mysterious Three-Fingered Mummy

Unearthed near the Nazca Lines, this bizarre discovery sparked wild theories and a scientific showdown—was it proof of extraterrestrials or just a misinterpreted piece of ancient history?

In southern Peru near the Nazca Lines they found a very mysterious mummy in a tomb. The discovery was made in early 2017 and it took the internet by storm. Everyone was curious about this mummy and what made it different from others.

It was found that the mummy dated back to a millennium before the discovery of the continent of America. The mummy had an elongated skull and only three fingers and toes.

Some people were really curious to learn more about this discovery because they thought there might be some truths hidden about early civilization. There were also some people who wanted to believe that because of the unique characteristics of the mummy maybe it would have been from another planet or from an advanced civilization. As we know a lot of people believe that either the earth was visited by some aliens who taught the ancient people their ways, or our civilization was once very advanced and that was due to the knowledge they gained from aliens. So a lot of people did think that the mummy discovered was an extraterrestrial being and not human.

These beliefs are held because some people are not aware of the different theories that scientists have put forward as to how the ancient people were able to make those pyramids or huge structures with the help of physical principles and they did not need the help of space ships of technology to actually do that. Another reason is that some people want to believe that there is someone out there in the universe and humans are not alone, so they are prone to interpret any evidence in the favour of the alien hypothesis.

Another reason for people believing this was that some mysterious researchers or scientists were also talking about the alien hypothesis. Konstantin Korotkov was one of those researchers. He was in the team of St. Petersburg geneticists are researching the tissue samples of the alien creature with an elongated skull and only three fingers and toes. It was reported that Korotkov claimed that “the mummies have 23 pairs of chromosomes (like a human), but their anatomy looks non-human. They [the mummies] could be extraterrestrials or bio robots,"

Although there were scientists who were already explaining this to be a normal discovery of mummies and said that this had nothing to do with aliens. For example Andrew Nelson, who was a professor of anthropology at the University of Western Ontario told the media that these mummies looked like the typical mummies that are found in Nazca and it is in a flexed and seated position. More than a dozen Peruvian mummy researchers signed a statement condemning this because they believed that these discovered mummies were changed by someone by adding human parts to make it look strange. One of the researchers said in a statement "I particularly find repulsive that anyone would [dare] to dehumanize deceased human bodies. You can't take away the condition of a human being!"

Scientists were also curious about this because every time an anomaly is discovered scientists do want to probe into it to prove or disprove it, that’s what scientific inquiry is all about. So they did exactly that, British researchers did DNA testing of the mummies that were named Maria and Steve and their founding was interesting.

They said that Steve’s body was a fake one and it was changed by adding some human and animal bones to it. For Maria, they found out that it was 98.5% – similar to humans – and 1.5% unknown. So they theorised that this cannot be an alien being but in fact it can be a human species that was present at that time, but that also cannot be 100% proven. So in the end it was found that a lot of the evidence was fake and also the actual scientific research found that those mummies were not aliens, but they were actually humans.
