Rock Muncher: The Woman Who Consumes 100 Rocks Daily.

By sanjana Published 3 years ago 3 min read

A woman who has an eating issue and has consumed more than 3,000 pounds of pebbles has said that love has helped her overcome her strange addiction. Teresa Widener, a 45-year-old care worker, used to eat handfuls of rocks anytime she felt anxious or depressed. Jim, her new spouse, is aiding her in breaking her 3-pound-per-week habit. The mother-of-two would resort to the stockpile of stones she kept in the kitchen cupboards when she felt unhappy or anxious, rather than reaching for a bar of chocolate or a bottle of wine.

Surprisingly, the pile of rocks she has ingested over the past 20 years weighs as much as that of a humpback whale. She uttered, "I've consumed three pounds of rocks on average every week for the past 20 years. "Depending on how I feel, it changes. I eat a lot more because it makes me feel better when I'm depressed. "Just knowing they're there makes me feel better," says the speaker. They are there for me when I'm upset, comforting me." When out on romantic country walks with her husband of one year, Jim, Teresa often chooses softer, more brittle rocks that she knows she can break up easily. She continued, "I choose the ones I like the look of. "Because I enjoy the earthy flavor of them, I occasionally just suck the mud right off of them as well.

Her teeth on the left side of her mouth are used to chew them up.

Because I've been chewing rocks with that side of my mouth for so long, the teeth there have gotten stronger, explained Teresa. Although she hasn't completely given up the habit, it appears that her new husband is helping to lessen her dependence. "Jim makes me so happy I've started eating less," she said. But everyone has bad days, and the only thing that can lift my spirits when I have one is a rock. He was very surprised when he first learned that I eat rocks, but he accepts me for who I am and knows that it makes me happier when I need a lift.

The medical condition Pica, which causes sufferers to become fixated on eating strange objects, is what is responsible for her cravings for boulders and pebbles. It is believed that a mineral deficiency in the diet of sufferers may be the cause of their uncontrollable urges. While it is hardly ever observed in humans, some animals in the animal kingdom, such as wolves and turtles, also eat rocks to aid in digestion. Doctors speculate that Teresa's need for rocks may be due to an iron deficiency that has caused her to experience anemia. When the rocks Teresa gathers are too large, she uses her specialized rock hammer at home in Bedford, Virginia, to smash them into manageable pieces.

"I've never had any medical issues because of the rocks," she continued, but I don't go to the bathroom too often." Teresa enjoys collecting rocks as a hobby and has been doing it for over a decade. She often goes on hikes to find unique specimens and has an impressive collection displayed in her home. and my stomach hurts a little bit occasionally.
