Who is Alexandra Sousa?

You are probably thinking “who is this girl who is now coming to the Internet to “throw hake fillets” (it’s a Portuguese expression)?” and with all legitimacy.

Personal picture of me :)

There are so many “gurus” out there that anyone who comes along with the intention of sharing something is automatically cataloged with that label. But I make the disclaimer: I am not nor do I aspire to be a guru.

I genuinely want to share tips from my experience to help leaders & future leaders and therefore their people. For more than 11 years this is what I have been doing in the various companies I have worked at and, from a very early age, I realized that the topic that made me talk for hours was leadership.

“And why now?”

Excellent question! You are asking very pertinent questions, congratulations! 😄

So, I thought it was important first to gather as much experience as possible to feel that I would have the legitimacy to share it and, honestly… I finally had the courage to go ahead.

A year ago, I decided to write my first eBook on Remote Leadership. I felt that it was a pain very much shared by all who had people under their responsibility. If you want to download it for free, here it is.

The positive feedback far exceeded my expectations and I realized I could share and help a lot more! Combining this passion with my dream of having something of my own, was the icing on the cake. Bad tongues will tell you it’s a lie, but I swear I heard and felt the ray of light that fell on me with the celestial choir in unison.

But moving forward, after the light bulb turned on (figuratively, of course) and several people motivated me to move forward, Liderar was born 🥳

On April 10th, 2022, I officially launch my website, which I intend to transform into a relaxed but high-profile community! I have a very clear vision of what I would like to create and I hope you will join me on this journey full of discoveries and sharing!

Soon after that, I discover Medium and decided to give it a try. The truth? I am loving it! So much interaction, sharing, and knowledge… is awesome!

But to answer, without further ado, the first question of who am I, here is a summary:

I am from the fantastic island, the highest point in Portugal, paradise on earth — Pico Island, Azores.

At the age of 18, I moved to the beautiful city of Leiria where I took the Human Relations and Organizational Communication course.

The, no less famous, family photo at the graduation!

After the 3 year course, I went to Lisbon where I started my professional career.

I went through several companies where I learned a lot. The areas were the most varied but one thing started to be constant: software development. Despite having worked in marketing, sales, and customer/partner support… one component became recurrent: managing software development teams. If you are interested in knowing more, I leave my LinkedIn link, otherwise, this page becomes an authentic scroll.

But, although important, the focus will not be on the companies I’ve been through, but on the lessons, I learned 🙂

Currently, I am an Agile Coach and I help several teams to be more efficient, productive and to have a safe, positive and supportive work environment. My focus has always been and always will be: people. Without them, there are no companies, KPIs/OKRs, results, metrics, nothing.

So without further ado, thank you so much for being here! I really want this space to be safe, without big flourishes or too many formalisms so that we can all be better and happier leaders!

Thank you and see you soon,

Alexandra Sousa
