Let’s get into it novel lovers.
I enjoy reading, so when I discovered a historical book series I was interested into reading what it was all about. Reading all eight books from the series left me with a lot of different opinions. So why not voice them?
Some of you guys might have heard about Bridgerton from Netflix. And that’s completely okay. I’ll be reviewing from the actual novels and I might leave a small review about the Netflix series.
Ranking is from eighth place to first.
Warning: Spoilers.
Ready? Okay.
8) The duke and I:
Okay. I absolutely loved the book. Like completely. I’m a sucker for enemies to friends to lovers trope. I was really into the book and this book was probably going to be in my top three. That was until we reached one specific scene. The scene where Daphne raped Simon. This scene was completely uncalled for. Julia Quinn could have added a different conflict that was not rape. I despised that whole scene that I didn’t even focus to the ending. I was even more livid when Daphne continued to gaslight Simon for his trauma by basically telling him to “man up and get over it.” I hated her even more when she exclaimed how powerful it felt after doing what she did to Simon. I know Simon was wrong for lying to Daphne about his whole “I can’t have kids” thing but that didn’t give Daphne the right to rape Simon when he was DRUNK and continuing even after Simon asked her to STOP. He asked her to stop multiple times after he figured out what was happening yet she still continued. Even Simon tried to push her off but she pinned his hands in place to stop him. Like no no no no. And it got even more upsetting when Simon had to be the one to go back to Daphne and basically apologizing for his trauma. Like no.
7) An offer from a gentleman.
Firstly, the Cinderella trope didnt make sense at all. Like I didn’t see the reason to add the ”you have to leave before 12am.” Yeah that didn’t make sense to me. But I ignored that and continued reading. And at first I was pissed at Benedict and then I got pissed at Sophie and then I got pissed at the both of them. Especially nearing the ending where Benedict found out the truth. What did Sophie expect? For Benedict to be like “yeah it’s okay that you’ve been hiding and you’re the woman I’ve been in love with for years and have been looking for you but you were right in front of my eyes?” I understand Sophie’s reasons but she has a lot of opportunities to tell Benedict her identity. Especially when Benedict had expressed his feelings for her. And I completely understand why he stormed out when he found out by himself who Sophie was. I was happy he left before he would have said something he regretted. And what made me want to punch Sophie in the gut was when she decided to run away AGAIN. Like the man who has been searching for you for years has found out that his beloved is right in front of his eyes and she didn’t even say anything. His anger was completely justified and I wished Sophie had a bit more patience and had waited for what Benedict wanted to say. But yeah okay. I still hated both of the characters.
6) On the way to the Wedding.
We don’t condone cheating. Okay let me explain. Despite Lucy not being in love with her Fiancée who wasn‘t even into her gender, it still didn’t seem right for her and Gregory to get it on the night before her wedding. Yes it wasn’t a love engagement or something, but cheating is still cheating. And I stand by that.
5) To Sir Phillip with Love,
Eloise’s character from Daphne’s book was very different in her own book. In the first book she was this badass character that didn’t care about marriage. But then she was super desperate to get married in her own book. Why? Because Penelope married Colin? Like uh… I didn’t find that as a good enough reason. I am happy though that she found her happy ending but running away from home and risking her family’s rep for some man wasn’t it. Like I had so many questions to why she was contradicting her character, but anyways. I despised Philip especially the way he treated his children. But im happy he sort of redeemed himself at the end.
Okay I’m tired of writing. See you in part two.
