Chapter 1: Tuesday, 6:00 AM

I woke up to my alarm screaming like it hated me. 6:00 AM. Another Tuesday. I groaned, rolled over, and slapped it silent. My mouth was dry. My brain foggy. I sat up and muttered, “Why do I do this to myself?”

Bathroom. Toothbrush. No tissue. “Seriously?” I grumbled. I wiped with a cotton pad and stared at my reflection. Puffy eyes. Wild curls. I looked like I’d wrestled my pillow and lost.

I threw on my navy pencil skirt, white blouse, and beige trench coat. My heels clicked against the hardwood as I grabbed my tote and headed out. The city was already buzzing, but something felt... off. Like the air was thicker. Like today wasn’t just another Tuesday.

Chapter 2: The Elevator Moment

I got to the firm at 7:00 AM sharp. The elevator ride up was quiet. Just me and my thoughts. As the doors opened to the 14th floor, I stepped out and there he was.

Jason Dean.

Tall. Sharp suit. That kind of jawline that made you forget your own name. He was walking into his new office, and I was walking into mine. Our eyes met for a split second. He didn’t smile. Just nodded. Mysterious. Intriguing. Dangerous?

I shook it off and headed to the coffee room. I needed caffeine like I needed oxygen.

Chapter 3: The Spill

I reached for the coffee pot, poured myself a cup, turned around and BAM. Coffee all over a crisp white shirt.

“Oh my God, I’m so sorry!” I gasped.

He looked down, then up at me with a smile that could melt steel. “Don’t worry. I don’t think we’ve met yet. I’m Jason Dean. New assistant to the senior partner.”

Jason. His voice was smooth. Confident. He didn’t flinch. Just stood there like he’d been waiting for this moment.

“I’m Chloe,” I said, trying not to sound flustered. “Let me clean that for you. I feel terrible.”

He chuckled. “You can make it up to me. Come by my place after work. Six o’clock. We’ll fix the shirt. Maybe share a drink.”

I hesitated. But something in his eyes pulled me in. “Okay,” I said. “Six.”

Chapter 4: The Call

Back at my desk, I was halfway through a contract review when my phone buzzed. Katrina. My sister. Miami. Seven months since we’d spoken.

“Chloe!” she squealed.

“Katrina! Oh my God, it’s been forever!”

We talked like no time had passed. She told me about her breakup four days ago. Her ex was distant, cold, never present. She sounded hurt but relieved.

“I just needed to hear your voice,” she said. “I miss you.”

“I miss you too,” I whispered. “Come visit. Please.”

We hung up. I stared at my screen. It was 5:55 PM. Time to go.

Chapter 5: The Ride

I grabbed my scarf, walked to the elevator and there was Jason. Leaning casually, waiting.

“Ready to come, Chloe?” he said with a smirk. “I hope you’re good at cleaning stains. If not, I don’t think I can forgive you.”

I laughed. “Don’t worry. I’m a pro.”

We got in his car. The tension was thick. His aura? Mysterious. Magnetic. I couldn’t stop looking at him.

Then he asked, “Chloe, can I ask you something?”

“Of course.”

“I know this is fast. But... do you want to have a one night stand?”

My heart stopped. We locked eyes. Traffic light red. Silence.

“Yes,” I said.

Green light. He hit the gas. I rolled down the window, took off my scarf. The barrier was gone.

Chapter 6: The Morning After

9:00 AM. I woke up in his bed. My hair was a mess. My blouse was on the floor. I checked my phone late.

“Jason!” I screamed, throwing a pillow at him. “We’re late!”

He groaned, grabbed his pants, and we scrambled. Regret hit me like a truck. What did I do?

We got to work at 9:30. I avoided eye contact. My head was spinning.

Chapter 7: Katrina Arrives

I was in my office, trying to focus, when I saw her.

Katrina.

She walked in, and I jumped out of my chair. We hugged like we hadn’t seen each other in years.

“I needed this,” she said, eyes watery.

“Sit,” I said, closing the door. “Tell me everything.”

She poured her heart out. I listened. We laughed. We cried.

“Dinner tonight?” I asked.

“Yes, of course,” she smiled, standing up.

Then she froze.

Her phone dropped, Her eyes widened, She stared past me.

“Jasonnnnnn!” she screamed.

I turned. Confused. Shocked.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

She stuttered. “That’s... my... ex.”

I fainted.

Chapter 8: The Hospital

9:00 PM. I opened my eyes. White ceiling. Beeping machines.

Katrina was beside me.

“You fainted,” she said softly.

I sat up. My heart racing.

“I slept with Jason last night,” I whispered. “He asked me for a one-night stand. I said yes. I wish I didn’t. But I didn’t know he was your ex.”

She stared at me.

And that’s when everything changed.
