Long Distance Love Letter for Him: From My Heart to Yours

A heartfelt letter for every girl who loves a boy far away.

By Express LanePublished 7 months ago 3 min read

If you’re reading this, I hope it’s late at night when the world is quiet and you can hear my heart in every word. Or maybe it’s early morning and you’re sipping your coffee, thinking of me. Either way, I just want to be there with you, even if only through this letter.

When we first started this, I never thought distance would feel so big. They all told us it wouldn’t last. They said, “Long distance never works.” Maybe they’re right for some people, but they don’t know us. They don’t know how you make me smile through a screen or how your laugh still warms my coldest days. They don’t see how your voice makes my room feel less empty at 2 a.m. when I can’t sleep because all I want is to feel your heartbeat next to mine.

I know it’s not always easy. Some nights feel endless. I lie awake wondering what you’re doing, if you’re missing me too. I replay your last hug in my head like it’s my favorite movie scene — the way your arms wrapped around me, the way you whispered you’d come back soon. Sometimes I catch myself smiling at my phone, just waiting for your goodnight text. It’s funny how those tiny messages mean more than whole conversations with anyone else.

I want you to know this: I don’t want perfect. I don’t want easy. I want you. The real you, even if you’re far away. I want the late-night calls, the sleepy “I love you” messages, the countdowns until we meet again. I want the promise that someday soon, the distance will shrink until it’s gone, and we’ll laugh about how we made it through. I’d choose this love — this sometimes hard, always worth-it love — every time.

You once asked me why I stay when it’s so hard. It’s because you make it worth it. Because the love I have for you is bigger than the distance between us. Because when I imagine my future, it’s your face I see when I wake up, your hand in mine when we cross the street, your laughter filling our kitchen while we make breakfast at 2 in the afternoon because we stayed up talking all night.

Sometimes I daydream about the little things. About grocery shopping together and fighting over which cereal to buy. About you stealing my blanket and pretending you didn’t. About hearing you complain about how bad I am at folding laundry. It’s silly, but it’s ours — the boring, real-life parts that I crave more than anything.

Until then, I’ll keep writing you letters. I’ll keep saving every voice note you send so I can play it when the nights feel too quiet. I’ll send you photos of the sunrise from my window, even if it’s the same view every day, just so you can see the world through my eyes. I’ll keep telling you stories about my day, even the boring ones, because every detail feels important when it’s you I’m sharing it with.

One day, we’ll close this distance for good. One day, these letters will be folded and saved in a box we’ll open when we’re old, sitting side by side on the porch, laughing at how dramatic we were. One day, I’ll wake up and reach for you — not my phone.

So tonight, when you miss me, read this again. Read it when you’re tired of waiting. Read it when you need to feel me next to you. Hear my voice in every word. Feel my love in every line. I am there with you — always, always, always.

No matter how far.

No matter how long.

No matter how lonely the nights may get.

Until we can close the gap between your heartbeat and mine, I’ll keep loving you like this — fiercely, patiently, endlessly.

Thank you for loving me through the distance. Thank you for being my safe place, even from miles away. Thank you for every promise you’ve kept and every promise we’re still holding onto.

So here’s my promise to you tonight: I am yours. Always.

Yours forever and ever,

Me 💌
