Society glamourizes workaholism but often neglects the adverse effects it brings, which is why taking a break from your work is crucial.
One of my favorite lines from the book called The subtle art of not giving a f*uck is
“The desire for a more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience.”
This teaches us how a person’s desire of gaining more can lead to a loss of other things.
A hardworking man called johnny
Johnny is a hardworking person, he often has sleepless nights, an unbalanced diet, and a lack of self-care.
Do you think he will succeed?
From our society’s perspective, yes he will but at what cost? The cost of a healthy mind and body.
The stress level, pressure, anger, depression, and anxiety will always be with him and because of this slowly he will be less productive at his work.
I know most of you might think this is how the world work and that becoming a successful person is hard. Indeed, it takes our legs and arms but why can not it be managed?
If you are a person like johnny or you know someone like him then you must have to read and learn about taking breaks from your work or study.
Increasing productivity through the break.
Everyone can be benefited from taking breaks whether you are a student, working person, housewife, or even a retired person.
When you give yourself time and take a moment to relax only you will come back stronger and perform better.
I used to write and publish one blog per day no matter what for several days but then I realized that I am stressing a lot because of which my content did not satisfy me nor I can focus on other daily things in my life.
At that time, I was also preparing for my test and my level of stress was at a whole new level.
I have no idea what to do because I have already made a commitment to myself and there is no way to go back but then I step on my ego and decided to take a break.
After taking a break for one day per week and giving that time to myself, doing things I enjoy the most, I realized that I was more effective with my blogs, studies, and daily activities.
Improving your health and focus.
As I already mentioned in the hardworking guy johnny story, we know how unhealthy it can be to work continuously and neglect our health.
While you unwind from your work or study, you not only become productive but also can boost your health and focus.
You recover from the work or study stress, your mind gets some time to relax, and your body is rejuvenated.
Many studies also have concluded that taking short breaks like walking, playing outdoor games, and listening to music can boost your well-being.
When your mind and body are in a healthy state, it is obvious that your focus will be increasing way more than what it was when you are in the process of working.
Five ways to take a break.
The first and most effective break is by taking a nature walk.
If it is not possible to go near nature for a walk then a simple walk near your house can also be helpful.
Second, make your stomach happy by having some healthy and refreshing food or juice as your stomach is your second brain.
Third, do some stretching and breathing exercise as it helps to relax your mind and body.
Fourth, take a short nap, and give your mind and body the rest they deserve.
Fifth and last, DO nothing at all.
Yes, you read it right. Sometimes, doing nothing and becoming your true self is what you need the most.
Sit at a comfortable place and just give yourself sufficient time to rewind.
