Have you met Sharon?
Best friend like no other.
Who is a best friend? A best friend is someone that loves you with all their heart and cares about you. Someone that would do anything for you and vice versa, no matter the circumstances; they’re always there. Someone who has your back no matter how bad the world gets.
A good friend is someone that takes care of your well-being when you are sick or if you are sad.
When they find the right person, they don't just stay friends because they love them as other people do. No. They become so much more than just a friend in a relationship. The person becomes your family.
Someone like Sharon.
And Sharon’s the only one that understands this better than anyone else.
But what about after that?
What happens to a best friend if the person doesn’t feel the same way?
When you finally meet someone like you who could never replace you as a best friend, what happens when things don’t work out between the two of you? What will happen to Sharon’s heart when she realizes it’s not going to be enough? What if it’s never enough because she’s been holding on too long? Will she let her friends go? Or will she keep holding onto hope?
She didn’t think so at first… but was that possible anymore?
Sharon had asked herself these same questions every time she thought something wasn’t working out. Ever since high school, she’d been sure that if she waited long enough, someone would come along and make things better, even if she didn’t realize it at first.
She hoped for this one day.
Friendship is about commitment. Friendship is not letting others down easily. It’s about being strong and not giving up, no matter how hard things get. It’s about showing the other person how much you care and how willing you are to try and fix whatever it is that seems broken. It’s about wanting to stand by them. You may not know what those relationships look like, but that doesn’t change the fact that you need to respect those bonds if you want to be happy. Those relationships may take longer than either of you expect, but they will last forever.
This is why friends can be the best thing ever – no matter how different the two of you are, no matter how many differences there are between you. Friendships grow over time, and you’ll learn new ways of expressing yourself and understanding one another and that’s just fine. But you shouldn’t give up on each other. Not ever.
That’s why friends have to trust each other when the time comes. You don’t have to tell them everything. They don’t have to know that sometimes you want to scream your frustrations into the void of space or cry until you have no tears left. You shouldn’t lose sight of what you have already achieved – you should remember where everything went wrong. If nothing else, you still need to make amends because that’s what friends are for. That’s part of what friendship means…
Because no matter what happens, if you have each other then nothing bad could ever happen. You’d survive a nuclear apocalypse if that’s what it took to keep your best friend by your side. Because nothing is stronger than that. Nothing can stop that bond. That’s what friends do.
The thing is when you find a best friend like Sharon when everything feels okay when you feel truly comfortable and safe around her when you feel loved…
It doesn’t matter whether you were together before high school or not. That doesn’t define any kind of relationship. No friendship does that. And no friendship is perfect. But friendship is worth fighting for because that’s what being a best friend means. That’s what having someone by your side is like. It might not seem like a lot at first.
