Dear Ashley Bookashy,
You ain’t never been much for words, yet you claim sometimes I have too many of them. The most important words you need to hear from me is how thankful I am to have you in my life.
How many things about you do I poke fun at on a daily basis? Well let’s go down the list: you greet everyone we cross paths with in the most gleeful high pitched voice. You have the most cheesy teeth filled smile. You’re extremely introverted and reading is your preferred brand of crack. I could go on forever and ever, but what you may not realize is these qualities are some of what I appreciate most about you. The warm spirit you carry around really brightens up my life, especially when my day is not so bright.
I’m not always conscious of when there’s something wrong with me, but you are because you know how I am. In many ways you know me better than I know myself and no matter what the issue may be you always do your best to help me out of my bad space. You even gone so far as to make your house my second home. I’m grateful for all the time we spend just watching movies and joking around as I write and you read.
As much I pick on you for your love of reading it’s actually something else I really appreciate about you. You’re an avid reader and I’m an avid writer. Part of what contributes to my the advancement of my writing is being able to read a lot. Seeing how much you read motivates me to read more because you actually make it look so enjoyable. In addition your love for reading has also taught me about how my writing has the power to stimulate the heart and mind in a way that can be everlasting to a dedicated reader.
I also appreciate how you’ve supported me as a writer. Your support really means a great deal to me because we both know that all of my stories aren’t exactly your cup of tea, but you read them anyway because you’re a loving friend who cares to support her best friend’s craft. I know you like to go in on me when I write a story or poem that brings you to tears, but I appreciate you letting me know how effective my work can be.
Perhaps the greatest gift that you have given me that I’m grateful for is an extended family, especially your amazing daughter. In being part of your family I have learned to be more loving and empathetic to individuals and families with special needs. You put me in tune with a part of my heart that I didn’t even know existed and I am forever grateful.
Your daughter holds a special place in my heart and that amazing child has really softened me up. If I ever have a daughter one day I hope she’ll be half as wonderful yours and if she loves me even a quarter as much as your baby girl then I’ll truly be blessed.
Dear Ashley. At the beginning and the end of the day you are the definition of what a real friend is. I’m so glad that you came out of your introvert bubble and picked me to be your best friend. You are kind, but at the same time you’re not afraid to tell me what you think. I love how we are very different, but you love and accept me regardless. We always get on each other’s last nerves, but it never pulls us apart. My life has been much better since you entered it four years ago. I love you much and during this holiday season I am very grateful for you.
