A Mysterious Disappearance

The mysterious disappearance of a male tourist named Christopher Jones at a remote area of our island has been surrounded by incessant speculation. Mr. Jones, a middle class American tourist in his mid-30s, arrived at our beautiful island with serious plans to start a small business. His wife and family, who have now been notified of his fate, describe him as a loving husband. They beg the community’s assistance to provide local authorities with any information to help solve what they deem a potential kidnap. However, as of yet no one has requested any ransom or any type of payment for his return. Local churches have set up prayer groups for the entire community to come and pray together for Mr. Jones’ prompt and safe return. Local newspapers have covered his dim departure since the first time it was reported.

Various witnesses pointed out that on Saturday night, two days ago, he arrived at the popular nightclub, “Le Paradis” with a couple of male friends where he apparently met a beautiful girl. The girl had rich dark, ebony skin tone, wavy dark hair and wore a long, elegant red dress with open back and a side slit. Everyone at the nightclub remembered her not only e to her stunning beauty but her ability to captivate the entire place with her dancing abilities. The newly formed couple danced, drank, talked and laughed for hours. No one knew what the conversation entailed. The one thing that stood out in everyone’s mind was their strong chemistry and how much they seem to enjoy each other’s company. People agreed that the couple were in their own world. Mr. Jones’ friends were the first ones to report his disappearance to local authorities since he did not answer their calls or return to the hotel room they shared.

Alarming reports issued by the local media offered conflicting data in regards to the characters, events and outcome of this furtive disappearance. The discrepancy in information has served to obscure what is in fact reality. One of the reports was by a female local who assured that the couple was part of a tour group that left around 7 am yesterday morning. Local tourist businesses worked with authorities but no leads were found concerning the said couple in their books. Another account stated the couple were seen with other couples partying all night. As per that version of events, this morning they mysteriously boarded an airplane flight to an unknown destination possibly to continue their romantic affair. A young, local man named Andre gave us his version of the facts. He stated that the couple were indeed enjoying a romantic voyage but via a ship sailing through its translucent waters when the romance was cut short. He stated that the lady tripped and suffered a terrible fall into the violent waters. The damsel in distress did not know how to swim and found it even more difficult due to her long dress. Unfortunately, the tourist did not know how to swim to rescue her. Andre who was in a nearby ship, jumped into the water to valiantly rescue her from the fierce ocean waves. The lady dumped the tourist and he felt such humiliation that he immediately left the island. The beautiful lady saw that Andre, her hero, was the only man she would love. Andre said she called him daily from different numbers insisting he is her hero and love of her life.

A local elderly man who requested anonymity, gave his version of the facts. He stated that he saw a loving couple who fit their description. The gentleman held her hand to assist her to board the ship as they flirted and laughed at their own private conversations. The sunset was bright on the background, strong winds manipulated the powerful waves of the ocean to sway the ship back and forth. The elderly man stated that the enamored couple and the ship disappeared into the horizon. “Ooohh if I could only be a fly on the wall or a bird in the sky to witness what happened once the ship sailed into the ocean. I would give the few coins I still own, “he giggled. Then he continued, “It was not the last I saw them. Yesterday they walked hand in hand and toured the local market on Main Street. They bought some pretty dresses, jewelry, hand crafted items and souvenirs. I do not know who reported them as missing. You ain’t missing if you do not want to be found!” He smiled mischievously as he exposed some missing teeth. “Hey, in my young days, I used to disappear the same way to enjoy my adventures with the ladies. Thankfully, nobody ever put me in the newspaper for that. I would have been in a lot of lady trouble“

In an update to our story and in an unforeseen turn of events, we are happy to report that Mr. Jones went to local authorities to report that he is safe. He stated that he got lost in the island and had to fight sea creatures to return back to land. He denies any reports of all the islanders and tourist who stated that he was seen with a beautiful lady. He said any resemblance to him are purely coincidental. He emphasized that he only has eyes for his wife and is anxiously awaiting the day to reunite with her. He stated that he has fallen in love with the island and plans a prompt return to begin his new business idea. The beautiful lady was also safe and seen walking around the island. She denied knowing Mr. Jones. She has been seen wearing beautiful new dresses, jewelry and hand crafted items from the local markets.
