Who plays at the Stadio San Siro in 2021?

It’s a well known fact that two of Europe’s biggest football clubs, AC Milan and Inter Milan, both share the San Siro stadium - also known as the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The Italy national football team also play often at the San Siro, and the stadium has hosted other international fixtures when Italy has held the FIFA World Cup, European Championships and Nations League tournaments.

Where is the San Siro stadium in Milan, which neighbourhood is the San Siro stadium in?

The San Siro stadium is located in a neighbourhood which shares its name - the San Siro district of ‘zone 7’ in the west side of Milan. The official address and postcode is: Estadio de San Siro, Piazzale Angelo Moratti, 20151 Milano MI, Italy.

Is the area around the Stadio San Siro safe?

Yes, I visited the San Siro stadium in 2017, and the area is very safe compared to the centre of Milan where tourist sites are filled with pickpockets and street sellers forcing you to buy things. The walkway in front of the San Siro is very wide open, as you can see from the images, next to a main road and tram line. Of course, walking at night you should always be vigil, and on matchday you should keep any valuables out of reach from pickpockets within the crowds.

What are the nearest Metro and tram stations to the San Siro stadium?

The M5 metro line runs directly from Bignami to the ‘San Siro Stadio’ designated station. You can also get off at the nearby ‘Lotto’ metro station, pictured, which is shared by Lines 1 and 5 and is particularly nice if you want to walk up the avenue towards the San Siro and take in its architecture.

What is the current capacity of San Siro stadium in 2021?

The current official seating capacity of Stadio San Siro for football matches is 80,018. Its record attendance was recorded in 1997 when 83,381 people watched Inter Milan vs Schalke. The San Siro stadium’s capacity is surprisingly only the 23rd biggest of all association football stadiums in the world - behind several from Australia, Russia, Malaysia, Qatar and even Ireland. However, it is probably one of the most famous and well-known football stadiums worldwide.

How old is the San Siro stadium now, when was it built?

The San Siro stadium was constructed in 1925 and completed in 1926, making it 95-years-old currently. It was initially named the Nuovo Stadio Calcistico San Siro - the San Siro New Football Stadium - quite a literal name at the time. It was one of the first large football stadiums in Italy to not be built as a multi-sport stadium and without an athletics track. Until 1947 it was owned fully by AC Milan, until Inter Milan became co-tenants in 1947.

When was the San Siro One Direction concert and what was its capacity?

In June 2014, One Direction held a concert at the San Siro stadium in Milan. The attendance was 115, 931 - the highest ever attendance for any event at El Stadio San Siro.

Is there a museum at the San Siro stadium?

Yes, the San Siro stadium museum is open most days - including Sundays - from 09:30 to 18:00. Like the clubshop, it celebrates both AC Milan and Inter Milan - their histories, trophies, past players and legends. There are various memorabilia such as kits, footballs, photos and programmes - from big names and victories across both clubs' histories.

What can I buy in the San Siro stadium shop?

When I visited the San Siro in 2017, one of the most interesting things for me was that AC Milan and Inter Milan also shared the same club shop, which is clearly divided into two halves as you can see in my photos - one side red and the other blue, although their merchandise is generally the same. You can buy both teams’ full home and official kits, scarves, footballs, t-shirts, sports bags, jackets, umbrellas, mugs and other gifts.

What is the weather forecast at San Siro stadium in the upcoming months of 2021?

Currently, in October 2021, daily high temperatures at the San Siro stadium and neighbourhood are between 17 and 19 degrees celsius. At night-time this can drop as low as 8 or 9 degrees celsius at the San Siro stadium and its area of Milan. It is sunny more often than not, with some clouds most days, and a few grey days with or without rain. Wind is usually very low, around 3 to 6 km/h.

When will the San Siro be demolished - will the San Siro demolition happen and if so when?

It's been reported that the historic San Siro stadium could be demolished in the next half-decade as part of a £1.07bn redevelopment of Milan. That would mean AC Milan and Inter Milan playing in a new modern stadium on the same site, with the cost shared between the two clubs. If it happens, this monumental move should take place before 2030 at the latest.
