On the second day of the third Test between India and England at Lord’s, Jasprit Bumrah once again showed why he is regarded as the best fast bowler in the world. After claiming Harry Brook’s wicket with a quickfire delivery on Day 1, Bumrah continued his brilliance with another unplayable delivery on Day 2 — this time, England captain Ben Stokes was his victim. Bumrah bowled a lethal inswinger around the wicket that stayed low and pierced through Stokes' defence, shattering the off stump. Stokes, who had fought hard for his 44 off 110 balls, looked stunned as the ball snuck past his bat and into the stumps.

England had resumed their innings on 251/4, with Joe Root just one run short of a well-deserved hundred. Root didn’t waste time and completed his 37th Test century with the first ball of the day. However, Bumrah soon turned the tide of the innings with a destructive spell of fast bowling. It was a masterclass in reverse swing and seam position as he dismantled the English batting order with precision and aggression.

With the wicket of Stokes, Bumrah achieved a special milestone. He overtook legendary all-rounder and 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev in the list of most Test wickets taken by an Indian player in England. Bumrah, who had equalled Kapil’s tally of 43 wickets by removing Brook on Day 1, moved ahead by claiming Stokes' wicket, and continued to add to his tally during the innings. He is now second only to Ishant Sharma in terms of wickets taken in England by an Indian, with 46 scalps in just 11 Tests — a staggering feat considering the conditions and quality of opposition.

But Bumrah wasn’t done. Soon after dismissing Stokes, he bowled another beauty to get rid of England’s centurion Joe Root. This time, it was a sharp nip-backer that took the inside edge of Root’s bat and crashed into the stumps, sending the dangerous batter back after a brilliant 100. The crowd at Lord’s, which had just applauded Root’s milestone, fell silent as Bumrah turned the game around for India.

In the very next over, Bumrah struck again — this time dismissing Chris Woakes. The on-field umpire initially ruled the batter not out, but India opted for a review. UltraEdge confirmed a faint nick, and the decision was overturned, giving Bumrah his fourth wicket of the innings. It was a perfect example of how Bumrah uses accuracy, movement, and subtle variations to dismantle batting lineups, especially in English conditions.

Here is a look at the top Indian wicket-takers in England:

1. Ishant Sharma – 51 wickets in 15 Tests

2. Jasprit Bumrah – 46 wickets in 11 Tests

3. Kapil Dev – 43 wickets in 13 Tests

4. Mohammed Shami – 42 wickets in 14 Tests

5. Anil Kumble – 36 wickets in 10 Tests

As for the series, it stands level at 1-1. England claimed the first Test at Leeds by five wickets. However, India, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, bounced back in grand style in the second Test at Edgbaston, winning by a massive margin of 336 runs. With the third Test hanging in balance, Bumrah’s fiery spell has put India in a strong position to take the lead in the series. His incredible performance is a reminder of the match-winning impact he consistently brings to the Indian team across formats, especially in high-pressure situations like this.
