City cemented their position as one of the best football teams of their time with their amazing dominance across several competitions.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
Manchester City's campaign in the 2022-2023 Premier League season was nothing short of extraordinary. Under the astute management of Pep Guardiola, they displayed a brand of football that mesmerized spectators and left their opponents in awe. City's relentless attacking prowess, coupled with a resolute defense, propelled them to a record-breaking title win, being the 2nd team to be three peating the Premier League alongside Manchester United who have done it twice.
City’s firepower in front, Erling Haaland, has been more than useful for the Blues, netting in 36 goals in 35 goals overtaking Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, both of whom scored 34 goals in the early to mid-1990s when the Premier League was a 42-game league, and broke Mohamed Salah's record of 32 goals in a 38-game season alongside with having 8 assists to his name. Midfield maestro Kevin De Bryune had also won his third playmaker award for having the most assists in the season, with 16. He had also previously won the award both in the 17/18 and 19/20 season. City had beaten title rivals/challengers Arsenal twice both at home and away to snatch the title away from them.
City have lost 5 times which is the least amount of losses in the 22/23 Season, Losing twice to Brentford, once to Spurs (no doubt about that), Liverpool at Anfield, and to their neighbors Manchester United.
Overall, Manchester City has shown a great display of fight, character and skills and emerged victorious to win a record three in a row Premier League Title.
F.A Cup BRAGGING RIGHTS:
At Wembley Stadium, Manchester City defeated Manchester United 2-1 to win the 2023 FA Cup. Ilkay Gundogan's stunning brace which included the fastest goal scored in a F.A Cup final, helped City win the trophy for the seventh time in club history in the first-ever all-Manchester final. After winning their third consecutive league title, Pep Guardiola's team has now won both the Premier League and FA Cup this season. City easily cruised past Chelsea with a comfortable 4-0 win against the London Club. Nathan Ake’s single goal helped them skim past Arsenal. City’s very own Phil Foden’s brace and an outside-the-box curler from Kevin De Bryune confirmed City’s place in the Quarter-Final. A Erling Haaland hat-trick stole the show against former player and Legend at City, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley. Riyad Mahrez’s Hattrick against Sheffield in the semis put his name in the history books, becoming the first player since Manchester United’s Alex Dawson to score a hat-trick in the semi-final of the FA Cup since 1958, as per Opta Joe, breaking a 65 year old record!.
In the final, City took the lead after just 12 seconds when Gundogan scored a brilliant volley. United equalized in the 30th minute through Bruno Fernandes, but Gundogan scored again in the 53rd minute to give City the victory. The FA Cup victory for City was also a huge confidence booster before the Champions League final. The team will be trying to continue their winning streak into the final match and win an unprecedented Treble.
CHAMPIONS WINNERS AT LAST:
For Manchester City, achieving European success has long been a treasured goal. On the biggest stage of all, the UEFA Champions League season of 2022–2023, City proved their mettle. In their historic history, Manchester City's victory in the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul was the pinnacle. A highly anticipated battle between City and the Italian giants, Inter Milan, took place during the game at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium. It was a contested battle between the two teams with both creating chances equally, though the Italians were more dominant and were putting the pressure on Pep’s Blues in the first half and the blues had to further suffer when Kevin De Bryune had to come off when he had an hamstring injury in the 34-ish minute, a big blow indeed.Phil Foden replaced the injured Belgian. The Citizens started off strong in the second half but in the 57th minute, Manual Akanji had misplaced a pass that had Inter’s Martinez able to capitilise off him but Ederson was well equal to the shot with Pep Guardiola funnily falling down to his knees.
Moving towards the 67th minute, Bernardo Silva tried to cross one in, bouncing to Rodri who curled from outside the box and Manchester City had gone up 1-0. The treble dream lives on! Ederson had to produce two outstanding moments, one denying a Lukaku header and punching the ball away from an Inter corner in the dying moments of the game. Whistle blown and Manchester City had finally achieved their dream of European Glory. Years of grit and effort culminated in City's Champions League victory. It was evidence of the group's fortitude, tactical mastery, and players' individual genius. The celebrations that followed demonstrated the team's cohesion and friendship as they savoured their momentous success. Manchester City's victory in Istanbul solidified their status among the top clubs in Europe and will always be viewed as a turning point in their football career.
