Amelia was last seen at the edge of the lake. One moment she was playing in the mist, the next… gone. No splash. No scream. Just silence.
The villagers said the lake took her, but at night, when the fog rolled in, they swore they heard her voice drifting across the water. A soft whisper, calling their names.
Those who followed the voice never came back. Boats were found drifting, lanterns still burning, but the people… gone.
Years later, a fisherman’s boy claimed he saw her. A pale girl standing on the shore, her dress dripping, her eyes empty. She raised a finger to her lips and whispered:
“Shhh… come closer.”
When he blinked, she vanished. Only ripples remained.
Now they say if you stand too close to the water, Amelia will whisper to you too.
And if you answer her… you’ll vanish, just like she did.
