The chamber around Clea seemed to pulse with the weight of her decision. Time itself felt thin, fragile, as though it might snap under the pressure of the choices hanging in the air. The shard in her pocket was now painfully hot, its warmth seeping into her skin like fire. The creature’s presence loomed over her, dark and oppressive, but it was something more than just a threat—it was temptation.

The Keeper watched her silently, his face a mask of unreadable sorrow. It was clear now: this wasn’t just about the creature or the tower. This was about Clea’s very soul, her future, her place in a world where nothing was certain.

"You can’t avoid it forever," the Keeper said, his voice low, almost sorrowful. "The creature is not just part of this tower. It is part of you now. You can feel it, can’t you? Its influence is already taking hold."

Clea’s hands shook as she gripped the shard in her pocket, resisting the urge to pull it out. The heat it radiated was like a living thing, thrumming in her veins, alive with power. She could feel the creature’s presence inside her mind, tugging at her thoughts, whispering to her in a voice she couldn’t quite hear but felt all the same.

Come closer. Touch me. Take control. I can give you everything.

The temptation was unbearable.

"No," Clea whispered, clenching her jaw as she fought the pull. "I won’t let you control me."

But the creature didn’t care about her resistance. It was patient, patient like a storm waiting to break. The shard in her pocket pulsed again, hotter, sharper, as if it was responding to her thoughts.

Clea couldn’t run from it. She had already walked too far into its trap. Every step she took, every breath she drew, only tightened the web around her.

The Keeper’s eyes narrowed, as if he sensed her internal struggle. "You think you can control it. But you’ve already lost that battle. You took the shard. You chose this. And now the creature’s power is intertwined with your own. The more you fight it, the stronger it gets."

Her mind raced. She remembered her life before Rivervale—before the glass. A life of theft, of constant running, of being untouchable. Always in control, always slipping through the cracks. She hadn’t asked for this, hadn’t asked to be chosen by the tower. But that was the lie she had told herself, wasn’t it? She had always been a part of this—this world, this fate.

She clenched her fists, struggling to maintain some semblance of control.

"I don’t want to be a puppet," Clea spat, her voice trembling with fury. "I’m not some pawn in your game."

The Keeper’s expression softened, but his eyes were filled with a knowing sadness. "You think you have a choice? You do have a choice, Clea. But it’s not the one you think. You must choose between the creature and the world. Between rewriting your fate… and letting the world fall apart."

The creature’s shadow stirred again, its tendrils reaching out, slowly wrapping around Clea’s legs, a whispering caress that sent chills down her spine. It was pulling her, pulling her into its embrace, and the promise it whispered felt too strong to resist.

"I can give you everything you’ve ever wanted, Clea," it murmured, its voice soft and ethereal. "No more running. No more stealing. No more fear. I can give you a future where you control it all. Time, fate, destiny—they’ll bend to your will."

Her chest tightened, the heat of the shard pressing against her like a brand. Was it that simple? Could she really change everything?

The fire, the scream, the hand reaching into the flames. Was that her future? Or was it the creature's?

She closed her eyes, and for the briefest moment, she imagined it. A life where she never had to run. Where she was in control of everything. The world could bend to her will. The fire, the destruction, the pain—it could all be avoided. She could rewrite the future, could shape it in her image.

But something in her, something deep and primal, screamed against it. Was it worth it? Was it worth giving up everything for a future that wasn’t hers to control?

"Why are you hesitating?" the creature asked, its voice suddenly cold, dark, and mocking. "You’ve always been a thief, Clea. Always taking. What’s one more thing to steal? Your future? Your destiny?"

"No!" Clea cried, her voice breaking. She stumbled backward, pulling herself away from the creature’s grasp. She couldn’t do this. She couldn’t be this person, not again.

But the pull was so strong.

She thought of the fire. Of the scream. Of the hand reaching for something it couldn’t have.

And then, just as her resolve was about to break, the Keeper stepped in front of her. His eyes were fierce, urgent, as if he could see through her every doubt, every fear.

"It’s not too late, Clea," he said, his voice firm. "You don’t have to take its power. You can still stop it. But you must act now, or it will be too late. The creature is weaving its influence, twisting your fate. If you don’t act—if you don’t make the right choice—you’ll lose yourself forever."

Clea’s breath caught in her throat. She couldn’t let herself be consumed, couldn’t let the creature have its way. Not after everything she had fought for.

The shard in her pocket burned hotter still, the warmth spreading through her like fire, like time itself was slipping away.

You can’t stop it.

But this wasn’t just about stopping the creature. It was about who Clea was, and what she would become.

Her hand moved instinctively to the shard, her fingers brushing its surface. And in that moment, she knew the price.

If she destroyed the creature, she would destroy the tower. She would break time itself. And in doing so, she would break herself.

But it was the only choice left.

With a deep, shuddering breath, Clea made her move.
