The Painting in Room 209
Art doesn’t always stay on the canvas.

Traveling salesman Marcus checked into an old inn during a thunderstorm. In his room hung a large painting of a ballroom filled with dancers. It looked almost alive—faces glowing in candlelight, eyes glimmering like real people.
At midnight, he heard faint violin music. The figures in the painting began to move, dancing gracefully across the frame. One woman turned toward him and smiled, lifting her hand as if inviting him to join.
The climax: Hypnotized, Marcus reached out. His fingers brushed the paint—and in a flash, he was gone. The next morning, the innkeeper noticed a new figure in the painting: a man in a raincoat, holding a hat, forever watching the dancers.
