CHAPTER 3

One Good Turn Deserves Another

Johnson Footwell came from a rich family in the United States. He lived in Georgia. Both his parents were doctors. Their residence was very beautiful. Everything went well for Johnson till he met the saddest day in his life at the age of eight. His parents passed away when he was eight years old. They died due to fire outbreak that stormed their hospital.

He lived with his aunt till he was ten years old. His aunt sent him to an orphanage because she could no longer cater for her four children.

Johnson moved to the orphanage. Johnson’s life was unpleasant at the orphanage. He only ate once a day. He had no friend at the orphanage. He was always lonely. His stay at the orphanage was very miserable because of the nurse appointed to look after them. The nurse did not like children. She shouted at any child who cried. She made all the children at the orphanage afraid of her.

One day, the children at the orphanage were playing football. Mistakenly one of them kicked r the ball and it landed straight on the nurse’s face. The wicked nurse did not give any child food on that day. Johnson did not even play the ball but he did not eat.

The wicked nurse made life at the orphanage so terrible for Johnson.

Other children told Johnson to be calm otherwise he will always be fighting with the wicked nurse.

One day, a post man came to the orphanage. He noticed that Johnson was lonely. He talked to Johnson. He talked with Johnson. The children at the orphanage were surprised because nobody talked to Johnson for a long period of time. The following day, the post man came again. The post man named, Mr. Charles became Johnson’s friend. Johnson had new children friends because of Mr. Charles. All the kids at the orphanage liked Johnson because he was kind, caring and humble.

Johnson helped kids who were wounded. In no time, Johnson became used to the orphanage but he was under the mercy of the wicked nurse.

The nurse constantly rebuked Mr. Charles whenever she sees him playing with the children at the orphanage.

The children at the orphanage decided to punish the wicked nurse a little. They covered a muddy place with leaves and they inserted a rope under. When the nurse walked there, she fell and her dress got muddy. After that the rope pulled her leg till she was hanged upside down on a tree. The children mocked her. The cleaner at the orphanage helped her to get down.

The wicked nurse suspected the kids and she accused Johnson of being the mastermind of the plan. She made Johnson to scrub the washroom for a month. Johnson did the punishment without complain. Mr. Charles supported the children at the orphanage financially even though he was not financially sound. Mr. Charles cared about Johnson. Mr. Charles believed that every child had a talent. Johnson did not seem to have interest in soccer, swimming, baseball, hockey or any action game.

Johnson always hid himself. One day, he went to a nearby pond. Mr. Charles followed him silently. Johnson picked up some sticks and a metal. He sat at the bank of the pond. Mr. Charles watched him from a distance. Johnson built a magnificent little ship. The ship was a three in one package. The ship could sail on water, under water and fly above water. Johnson made a flying gear with leaves for the ship. Mr. Charles was amazed.

Mr. Charles immediately knew the boy’s talent. He began to look for companies that hired young engineers.

The orphanage home where Johnson stayed was demolished by the state authority. They were to be transferred to another orphanage. Johnson did not wish to go to another orphanage. Mr. Charles found an engineering company that needed young boys to clean and maintain the company. He told Johnson about it. Johnson accepted the offer but he never knew his acceptance will bring separation between him and Mr. Charles.

Johnson got the job and Mr. Charles also got a new job outside the country. The two friends got separated. Mr. Charles gave his old house to Johnson so that he could stay inside. Johnson worked in the engineering company. He cleaned all the equipment used in the company. The company was a young company which was in a competition with other companies that were old and well developed. Johnson constantly saw things in the engineering company which he liked but he could not use them because he was just a cleaner. One day the light at Johnson’s residence went out. Johnson fixed the problem on his own. Johnson believed in the proverb, ‘Practice Makes Man Perfect’. He continued to practice his skills so that he would be perfect.

At a time, all engineering companies in the U.S were in a challenge. The company with the best new product was to be given $200,000,000. All companies in the U.S were to display their product in two months time. The manager of Great Ambition Engineering [the company in which Johnson worked as a cleaner was out of ideas of what to do.] All other companies had new products. A month before the presentation, all the workers except Johnson at Great Ambition Engineering went to a meeting. Johnson was alone at the company. After performing his normal duties, he headed straight into the store room. He found unused machines and metals. He sat and he started to build. He built a robot that did things like a human. The robot had a switch. A remote was made to control the robot. Johnson used about two hours to create the robot. He used the robot to clean the entire building. The robot did Johnson’s work six times faster.

After four hours all the employees returned and they met Johnson’s robot. The manager was marveled. He said to all his employees that none of them had an idea but Johnson had a brilliant idea. The manager took Johnson’s robot. They restructured and equipped the robot. Great Ambition Engineering won the challenge because of Johnson’s spectacular idea. The company gave Johnson forty percent of the money. Johnson went to an engineering school with the money. He graduated with a PHD in engineering.

He first joined an engineering company as an employee. By God’s grace he got a lot of money from that company because he was appointed as the assistant manager.

When Johnson reached the age of twenty-seven, he opened his own engineering company. His company flourished just few months after it was set up. His company was well known because of their amazing products and inventions. Johnson’s company invented a machine that could grind tomato, pepper and cereals. His company also created an electronic carpet and a multifunctioning computer mouse. Johnson became wealthy day by day.

One day, when Johnson went home after a busy week schedule, he started to think about Mr. Charles. Johnson remembered the small ship he built when he was at the orphanage. He decided to rebuild a bigger one. He made the plan to build the ship. His company started to build the ship.

After one month, the ship was completed. The ship was lunched. The ship was tested on the Pacific Ocean. The ship could sail on water, dive into water like a submarine and fly above water like an airplane. Johnson’s invention made him the richest engineer in the U.S. Johnson was famous. He was given the title ‘Spectacular Engineer’.

One day Johnson was travelling by airplane. He met a man who was crying at the airport. He went closer to the man and asked him what the problem was. The man told Mr. Johnson that he was robbed. After the man had finished talking, Mr. Johnson realized that he was talking to Mr. Charles. Mr. Johnson introduced himself to the 59 year old Mr. Charles. Mr. Charles was surprised.

Mr. Johnson did what he came to do and left to the U.S. immediately with Mr. Charles. When they reached the U.S., Mr. Johnson built Mr. Charles a luxurious apartment, a hotel and a restaurant. The two friends were together once again. Mr. Charles got rewarded for the good things he did for Mr. Johnson. One good turn really deserves another.
