She immediately took off, sprinting back home. "I know I've seen those designs before. They were on the mask I found in the attic," she muttered to herself as she weaved through the crowded streets.
Why did they have a mask that looked just like the one from the poster? Could it belong to her dad? And if so... why? A million questions flooded her mind.
The moment she reached home, she rushed up to the attic and grabbed the mask. Holding it up, she carefully examined the designs — they were identical. Without wasting another second, she marched to her dad.
"Dad, what is this?" she asked, holding up the white mask. "I found it in the attic a while ago, but I didn't think much of it until I saw the poster about the masked man. Why does this look exactly like his?"
"I thought I'd gotten rid of that thing," he sighed. "It's a mask I used when I was younger. I was a vigilante back then. I wanted to uphold justice, but I despised the way the leadership handled things. So, I took matters into my own hands."
He glanced at the mask. "With that, I could help those in need without being recognized. But that's all in the past now. As for why the rogue vigilante is wearing a mask with the same design... I have no clue. That part is beyond me. Satisfied?"
He looked at her, waiting for a response.
Kyoko blinked.
"What?"
"Nothing. I just didn't think you'd tell me that easily."
"Well, there was nothing to hide," he shrugs.
Holding the mask, Kyoko heads back to her room. "I guess it was nothing," she mumbles, disappointment etched on her face.
Months passed, and rumors of the mysterious 'man with the mask'—now known as Kamenrai—continued to spread. He appeared on battlefields, protecting the weak and striking down oppressors. His skill and agility left people in awe, making them believe he was far more capable than the authorities.
Eventually, word of Kamenrai reached the Lieutenant. At first, he paid little attention to the vigilante’s actions, but as Kamenrai's reputation grew, so did the Lieutenant's curiosity.
Who exactly is Kamenrai? And more importantly... why does he sound so... familiar?
