Some homes never stop expecting their owners to return.
When Evan inherited an abandoned farmhouse, he planned to sell it quickly. But inside, the clocks still worked, the fireplace burned faintly, and fresh flowers sat on the table—as if the house had never stopped living.
Each night, he heard footsteps upstairs. The rooms seemed to shift when he looked away. He found a diary belonging to a woman named Cora, who wrote: “He promised he’d come back. I’ll keep the house ready.”
The climax: In the attic mirror, Evan saw her reflection standing beside him, smiling. He finally realized Cora was his great-grandmother—and the house had been waiting, keeping her promise alive through time itself.
