The Heart's Illusion

Lessons from Innocence

By Lil'RosiePublished about a year ago 2 min read

There comes a time in everyone's life when reality delivers a harsh lesson, shattering the rose-colored glasses through which we view the world…. For me, this moment of realization came when I understood that innocent people, those who believe in the inherent goodness of everyone, often find themselves heartbroken and betrayed. Their pure hearts and trusting nature leave them vulnerable to the harshness of reality.

I have always admired innocence - the kind that sees the world with untainted eyes, believing that every person harbors kindness and goodwill. But as I navigated through my own experiences, I saw the cracks in this beautiful illusion. It became painfully clear that not everyone has a good heart, and this realization can be both devastating and enlightening.

Innocent people are often deemed 'stupid' by the cynical and worldly-wise. They are ridiculed for their unwavering trust and their ability to forgive easily. However, I believe there is profound strength in innocence. It takes immense courage to maintain a kind heart in a world that often rewards selfishness and deceit.

Innocence teaches us to look for the good in people, to give second chances, and to approach life with a sense of wonder and hope. Yet, it is crucial to balance this with wisdom. Understanding that not everyone deserves our trust is not about becoming jaded; it's about protecting ourselves while preserving the goodness within us.

One of the most significant lessons I have learned is that we must protect our hearts without hardening them. We should remain open to love and kindness, but also be discerning about where we place our trust. It is possible to be both kind and cautious, to give love freely but also to recognize when it is not reciprocated.

To all the innocent souls out there: you are not stupid. Your ability to see the good in others is a gift, not a flaw. But remember, self-preservation is not selfishness. It's perfectly okay to guard your heart, to be selective about who you let in, and to walk away from those who take advantage of your kindness.

Life is a journey of balancing innocence with wisdom. As we grow, we learn that while not everyone has a good heart, our own heart can remain a source of light and inspiration. Let's carry forward the innocence within us, tempered with the wisdom of our experiences. In doing so, we can navigate the world with both kindness and strength, spreading love while protecting our own hearts.

Stay hopeful, stay kind, but most importantly, stay wise.
